A lighthearted story
Jul. 17th, 2007 04:50 pmI figured I'd share this because there is so much suck going around. Its my favorite story as of late.
My Sister was driving recently and JD was in the front seat (the fact that he's big enough for the front seat now kind of freaks me out, but whatever). Metallica was on the radio, and JD was bopping his head around and grooving to the music. My Sister says "That's Metallica - Auntie Jodi used to really love them when she was a teenager." JD looks at her, thinks for a second and says "I like them a lot. They sound like N - I - N " [spelled out]. My sister stops and looks at him "Wait, N - I - N, you mean Nine Inch Nails?!" and he replies "Yeah - they are so cool".
So the question is, where does a 10 year old living in cow-hampshire hear NIN? My Sister isn't listening to stations on the radio where he'd catch it normally (though maybe she is - the fact that Metallica came up could mean something, but their newer stuff does lend itself well to 98.5 - OK, that's just me being grumpy). I just don't see a ton of NINies coming from that area, or perhaps not at least that young. I swear, I've had nothing to do with it. I'm not around my Nephew enough to have that kind of influence. I'd be lying if I said it didn't do my heart good though. Perhaps I should make him a mix CD? :)
Another cute nephew story, Brian overheard he and 2 other boys talking at his birthday party. The taller (presumably older) one asked the other two if they had seen Shrek III yet. JD answered yes, the other kid no. The bigger kid said "Girls really dig Shrek - its a good thing to know about". GAH! I'm not sure if I'm ready for my nephew to be thinking romantically but its amusing to see little boys concerned about these things so openly.
When I was 10 I was already all swoony about boys, but girls tend to get there first, don't they? The boys were too busy making fun of me for wearing a bra (the first in my class) and snapping the back strap. Maybe it was flirting? Or repressed Catholic School-ism? Either way, I had better not catch my nephew doing anything mean like that to some poor girl! :)

Because I was 9 when I... er ... um ... started having "THOSE" thoughts.... ahem.....
