Bedazzler

Do any of my crafty friends in the Boston area have something akin to the Bedazzler ala the 80's?

I wasn't going to plan on putting all of the hand painting and beading onto this Inara bodice, but in case I have time I figured I'd inquire of you all. Have you used something like this on fabric before? Was it effective? Can you find supplies locally/easily (i.e. no time for mail order) and do they carry pearl like buttons for it (i.e. not just the rhinestones)?

I don't need a lot of them, but it sure may make application easier (and if one of you has one I could borrow it would be very cool). Here's an example of what they'd be used for on the bra, not the armband

Or do you think it would be easier by hand? I've never used rhinestones or anything of that nature before. I'm not looking for fancy - just something that look sort of like white pearls.

Here's the painted detailing on the back . I need some gold paint markers.

If you want to go the glue route (easier than the bedazzler and the prongs won't catch on things) I suggest this stuff:


I used it to rhinestone my leather columbia shoes and anything that needs a little flex after that. Also I thyink Playtime in Arlington has pearl buttons like you need; I got some recently from Hobby Lobby here and it was in the same packaging that the stuff Playtime carries. hope that helps!

Thanks! :) Some is definitely puffy. Some looks a bit more flat (Brian was thinking a paint marker). Originally I didn't think I'd have time for those details for DC, but Brian seems to think we're doing fine with time.

Through this whole project my mantra has kind of been WWTD (what would Traci do) ;) Its terrifying the crap out of me, but I figure if I just myself mess up and keep trying I'll get it at some point.

I don't have a Bedazzler, but a lot of the belly dancers who do their own costuming say they love theirs. Playtime has them, I've always been a bit tempted.

Right, I forgot to add that on the leather part I do think you were spot on with the gold paint pen.

My mom has mine unfortunately, and the chances of her finding it for dragoncon are about equal to surviving an asteroid field. But I remember it working reasonably well on normal fabrics, but I would worry about putting it on fine/sheer fabrics.
