In preparation for our trip tonight (introducing DW to this townie favorite) I went searching for some reviews. This page http://www.yelp.com/biz/chateau-restaurant-waltham pretty much says all that I've heard people express before, and its a very amusing read.

I'll bet you anything a lot of people who lambaste this place (except maybe A.) looove Vampire Weekend and stopped liking Interpol when they sold out.

*sighs* Hungry now. :(

When I worked at Chipwrights, a common threat was if you aren't done on time we are taking you to the Chateau.

About half my coworkers felt like I do about the place (I'd eat boiled bark with a little salt) and the other half had it in their monthly rotation.

Like I said, I think you're one of the few people I would not accuse of elitism regarding your opinion of this place. I can see that you genuinely hated it, and I strongly respect your opinion when it comes to food.

I, however, was very happy with it.

for local flavor you really need to get him to Dom's, that Chinese place by your old apartment, Skellig (yeah yeah that's new I know but!), Watch City...there are a ton of really wonderful local places out in that area. I sometimes miss working out there

Mmm, Skellig. They produce a wondrous brunch.

Jeff and I went there once forever ago...he got food poisoning, I got chicken marsala. Can't say I've been back, but I do recall the bread with fondness.

Framingham has La Cantina which is almost Chateau-like in its menu and clientele. Also, I got food poisoning there. What is it with these townie quasi-Italian joints?

I dig the Chateau.
It's really old-school gold and maroon. Looks like your Italian grandma's house. The food is just great!
I really love to eat there.

I really dig the one on Route 1 in Norwood.  With an excellent view of the local driving range!
