25 Things Meme

1. I'm typically reading non-fiction or self-help books and I've been doing this kind of thing since high school (people comment on this quite often).
2. I really do love to sew, though you wouldn't think so with the little bit of time I spend on it. I really need to be in the mood or I'll absolutely destroy the thing I'm working on out of frustration.
3. Driving around with the windows open and singing 80's rock with a froufy coffee or tea drink is a heavenly way to spend the night - particularly on country roads in affluent Metrowest towns.
4. I really miss The Coffee Connection (in particular, the one in Newton Center) and Liberty Cafe in Central Square.
5. I've always loved collecting funky stationary, dating back to the 70's Hello Kitty merchandise. I'm too practical now to seek that kind of thing out but I get excited to come across interesting yet still professional pens to use at work.
6. Not sure why, but I've had a fascination with huge robotic death machines from a very young age (first Daleks watching Dr. Who with Dad on PBS in the 70s and later the AT-ATs from ESB). I'm not sure where I was for the whole Galactica craze as a kid - we just didn't watch it.
7. Life in my head really does progress like a musical, and I'm often thinking of ways that situations could be performed in that way. I get excited when more mainstream stuff happens like this (Baz Luhrman, Joss Whedon, Repo) because I feel like I'm not the only musical loser out there.
8. I really miss performing in shows, though I know myself well enough to know that I wouldn't want to endure the life-sucking practice schedule that's required of it. I don't give my 'performance face' nearly enough - I really am quite good on stage.
9. I really love going to small, local and kind of obscure museums and finding similar tourist spots when we travel. Favorites include the Edward Gorey House, Waltham Museum/Charles River Museum of Industry, Liberace Museum.
10. I could sit in the indoor garden at the Gardener Museum for hours just staring at things. It gives me fond memories of the time spent there for free when I was a student at Simmons next-door.
11. Kind of like sewing, once I get out there I really enjoy gardening on our little piece of the universe, yet I never manage to spend as much time out there as I'd like to.
12. It feels odd that we haven't ripped something in our house apart in a long time. I really do love constantly tweaking it to our ideal (which drives my husband crazy).
13. I've never been a traditional "girl" in most senses, so I take for granted the kinds of things that seem normal for the average female of the species. This is becoming more apparent to me as my good friend plans her wedding and asks for feedback on things that are completely alien to me.
14. A cup of good tea really is like a little hug inside. It will always brighten my mood if I'm in a bad one.
15. I really enjoy reminiscing about activities with friends and family or over things I did years ago as a kid. Today, I feel like I should carry around a camera to document time as it flies by, but I struggle with that desire and the one to be fully in the moment and not just as a documentarian.
16. I really was a messed up teenager, and I forget about that sometimes. Seeing TV shows or reading articles of today's messed up teenagers reminds me of the mental place I was in at that time (for instance, this week's Oprah shows on obese teenagers and the feelings they expressed). I wasn't an obese teenager and didn't have the problems a lot of those kids (for instance) had, but mentally I was right there with them. I can't believe that I'm the person I am today despite all of that.
17. I've always loved rabbits, loved tomato-based food, loved the color green and had 5 as my lucky number. Its been so long for all of these, I can't tell you why.
18. Google-related tools really rock my world (calendar, spreadsheets, to do lists, RSS reader).
19. I'm trying to eat less and less processed foods and while it can take more planning and effort I've had fun with this challenge. I can't wait until the farmer's markets open again. Maybe this year I'll make more effort at homemade stuff and food preservation (bulk cooking, freezing, canning).
20. I'm really in love with the Trebuchet font. Edward Tufte suggested it as a simple/clean font to use for things and when I got back from the seminar that I attended I checked it out. Its just a font and I'm not usually one to get excited about typefaces like some of my graphic designer friends will, but I just love the clean and kind of bubbly sweep of it. It makes creating boring documents a bit more fun.
21. I am very easily amused sometimes (case in point, #20).
22. Though lots of my friends are into board, strategy or role play games I've never really been big on them. I'm much more of a 'lets put on a show' or 'lets play relivio' or 'lets play with matchbox cars or lincoln logs' kind of gal. And school - I used to like to play school a lot (even by myself) and I tend to enjoy showing people how to do things.
23. At one point I was a very good swimmer, since our parents dragged us to many lessons over many years. In some of my last years of summer camp (Camp Elm Bank over at the Stigmatine's site on Lexington Street) I was going through the lifeguard training course, complete with jumping in with my clothes on and tying pant legs and sleeves and blowing them up to create makeshift floats. I really loved that camp. Its weird being married to someone who can't swim now because swimming was such a focal point of any vacation while growing up.
24. I'm not a football person at all (or most sports for that matter - I do enjoy watching hockey though) but I'm excited about playing along at the Super Bowl festivities this Sunday. Aside from seeing friends its kind of a social 'this is what the normal world does' experiment. That and I'm curious about the ads, even though I'm not buying much nowadays.
25. I rarely do these long meme things (I don't like to tag people and feel like people are being demanding of my time when they tag me). Sometimes though, I like the distraction (this is one such time, as I finish up my lunch hour).

Date: 2009-01-30 01:01 pm (UTC)It's really not about buying stuff for me. I remember seeing my first Porsche commercial during the Super Bowl. The Budweiser frogs (compilation), horses, etc. ads are always pretty good. I really like this Nissan Top Gun tribute. And you might enjoy the Sobe Life water commercial from last year. I remember the ads because they're entertaining, not because I want to go out and buy their products :)
I agree. I've been thinking of doing this 25 list at some point, just haven't gotten around to it. But I was only going to tag back the people who tagged me, not tag new people...
