From www.foodmatters.tv - I really enjoyed this move and it definitely provided some food for thought (ha!) and for further research

"Let thy food by thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food" Hipocrates

Today: MDs with little nutritional training, treat everything with a pill.

"The sickness industry" - capitalist society, regulation issues (drug licensing paid for by drug companies - regulators, researchers, journal advertising).

The supermarket, the miracles of agriculture (where is food from, how old)

How much nutritional value from this? What % of what you need are you getting?

Chemical treatment/genetic modification
Impact on soil (deficient soil = deficient plants = bugs = chemical need)

the chemical industry

cooking food = loss of enzymes (that would be beneficial for body's digestion)
immune system reacts to cooked food as a toxin (increase in white cells)
Paul Kouchakoff 1930s researcher, showed body reacting to cooked food if >52% is cooked.

"chronic malnutrition"

"Superfoods":
-Spirulina (highest protein food in world), most protein damaged by heat. Liquid rotein absorbed by body more easily.
-cocao beans: magnesium, chromium, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, vit. C, antioxidants

"Values Aversion": spend $ on rent or car or house than good food

Vitamins to deal with deficiencies or "dangerous", thought that medically beneficial needs to be regulated.

<6% MDs have nutritional training. Poor food at hospitals (nutritionally), poor diet not often considered in medical issues.

Vitamin C use to treat illness by MDs in 1940s, body of knowledged not taught in medical schools
Linus Pauling (Vitamin C impact on the common cold),

Vitamin E: heart disease, burns, epilepsy
Vitamin C: antitoxin, antihistamine, antiviral, blood sugar, elevate mood

Vitamin and mineral deficiencies responsible for broad conditions (conflicts with 'one drug, one disease' argument).

Medical Journals 'blacklisted', studies showing scientific support for nutritional solutions, not indexed by National Library of Medicine (people don't hear about the studies).

Max Gerson, Gerson Therapy: body has its own healing mechanism - MD should activate the body's healing mechanism to heal the patient (Cancer treatment)

Cells aren't made of drugs, surgery doesn't put anything good into you - surgery/drugs doesn't promote health.

recommended daily allowance: prevents disease for majority of population
(not take into account environmental stresses - stress, exercise, meditation)

Treat symptom versus treat chronic problem (change route cause)

Cardiovascular disease, one of "civilization": fast food, meat, sugar, processed food, lack of exercise

Dean Ornish MD, strict vegetarian diet for patients w/ cardiovascular disease. Stress reduction program - patients reverse even advanced cardiovascular disease without surgery

The industry not want to look at food or lifestyle for solution (want science, drugs, surgery)
but safer, cheaper, effective (not all MDs trained in, pressure from drug companies, pressure from patients)

People dying from adverse drug reactions (much lower than auto accidents)
106k a year (JAMA), properly prescribed, took as directed

Drugs good and necessary, but field is looking for a drug for everything.

Stock market fail if there was an epidemic of health, "there is no money in health"

Licensed drugs on market after testing on only a few thousand people (max). Learn if drugs work while in the market - most often to treat chronic issues, don't treat very well - drug company loves (doesn't cure a person)

Niacin for Antidepressent (Bill W, Founder of AA used and tried to suggest as a standard part of the AA program, organization more focused on medical treatments than nutritional)
Dr. Hoffer - little research to show high levels of Niacin dangerous, though many depressed committing suicide

2 handfuls of cashews = a dose of prozac

If brain is hungry/starved/poisoned, the body isn't going to heal

Mercury fillings toxic

Eating better, toxics need to get out (detoxing): drink lots of water first thing in AM before eating, coffee, etc.

Cancers growing back, not correcting the underlying problem - 'a normal human body can not get cancer' John Beard 1904, cancer is a healing process that hasn't switched off (chemo is a carcinogen). Illegal to treat cancer with nutrition in most countries - going to Mexico for treatment (research limited to drug, surgery, radiation options).

72 Nixon, if we throw enough money at cancer, we should be able to solve the problem. More money spent on research, more people dying today than then.

"One of the few free choices a person has is what they will and will not eat"
Andrew Saul, MD

high fiber diet, avoid food preservatives, environmental chemicals (Japanese with lowest incidence of cancer - fiber, trace elements, omega 3s, green tea)

High vitamin C IV treatments - no adverse events other than thirst, woozy, no kidney stones (kills cancer). Orthomolecular Medicine vs traditional medical school dichotomy

"You have a right to self care and self help"

Most civilized countries have nationalized health care. Should we focus on $ or on teaching people how to be healthy (education versus medication). Internet results in more information for people. More change as people take their own health into their own hands.

"Make nutrition the primary prevention strategy"

Turning to alternatives because what's done before isn't working
