Weekend

We had a great one, with a good mix of busy and chill.

On Friday we went out to visit our favorite Star Wars Kung Fu friends on the South Shore for dinner. Their usual Friday thing is to meet after work at Bertuccis in Braintree, so we met up with them there after running some errands. They have this awesome whole wheat pasta w/ a chicken meatball special now - yum! Their younger son informed us of what we should do in case of a Tornado, having picked it up on the news during the week. He's nothing if not prepared. :)

Saturday morning had us both up early so that Brian could go to a troop with Star Wars Author Ryder Wyndam in North Attleboro, and I had my last ballet class before the show. A friend of a friend was coming out to fix our leaky chimney and steps, but Brian had forgotten to powerwash and prep the steps (doh)! I had to run out to get our CSA share at 9:30, come home and put the meat in the freezer, run to the bank and pay the guy for the chimney work, leave my house unlocked for him to finish the job and then run to ballet class by 10:00 in Newton at the theater, just on time (crazy). I'm happy that finally, hopefully, it won't rain in our attic any more! The front steps will get fixed in a couple of weeks to give us time to power wash them and remove all of the loose stone and paint (and our mason has other jobs and a vacation scheduled in the middle.

A 501st friend and his wife from Michigan were in town, so we met up with them in Davis Square at The Joshua Tree for food, drinks and socializing. Rome is a HUGE Bruins fan, so we did that 'hang out in a bar and watch a sporting event' thing. We had eaten some burittos at Anna's before meeting them at the bar so we didn't have dinner there, but the food all looked very good. Their desserts were surprisingly awesome! I have to credit the bravery it took the Canucks fans, wearing their shirts and winter scarves (WTF it's June) to the bar. We were taking bets on who would start the first fight with them - Web Chief or the huge bald dude sitting behind him yelling "get the fsck out of the bar!" every time the Canuck fans would cheer. My weekend was catching up with me and neither of us are sports fans, so we took off around 10:30 to head home and watch Dr. Who before turning in.

There were 100 things I wanted to do yesterday, and with having a day mostly with no plans, it is always tough to try and be productive without overdoing things. I tend to go go go! We got up and went for breakfast at Victoria's Cafe inside the Watch Factory building (love that place and we rarely have to wait for a seat, which is more than you can say for In a Pickle). We both wanted to get new light sneakers for the summer and headed to the Arsenal Mall which wasn't open yet (and we were doubtful Brian would find the Vans he wanted there), so we continued on to Harvard Square. I love going on Sundays, free meter parking and things weren't too crazy yet. Gorgeous weather! We both picked up some new shoes at Berks, he got black on black Vans and me some Dansko sneakers (who knew?!). We headed home to spend the rest of the day around our hood.

Gram and Papa always had a bunch of Azalea bushes in front of their house, and I've wanted to get two to fill in a couple of empty spaces in my small front "yard". I had picked them up on Saturday afternoon after ballet and lunch, and Brian and I got them planted on Sunday afternoon. We put up some fencing that I ordered a long time ago that's been on our front porch in a roll since February, and mowed, and weeded a bit. Oh there is still so much work to be done but at least it's looking human again, sort of. The hammocks are dug out and our back patio is set up, but our poor wooden table has seen the end of its days with it's rotted, crumbling surface and we need to get another soon before they all sell out - a glass and metal one this time. Finally, we had a free day with good weather to take our bunnies outside! They just come alive like they are kids again and do that crazy erratic bunny run around, despite being around 10 years old. While sitting there with buns and a book a neighbor who lives directly behind us was walking by out on the street with his two young boys (3 and 5) and saw us, and commented to his boys that there were bunnies. We invited them back and chatted a bit. It's funny that we've both been living in these houses since 2004 and have never chatted before. He seemed most interested in asking me what growing up here was like, since it is so so different now.

We had plans with S&K for dinner, and so after packing up and getting some things done in the house we walked down with our side dishes in tow. I love having friends in the neighborhood and not having to get into a car.

I did some catching up with So You Think You Can Dance before bed while Brian did some LMO geeking. It's looking like it's going to be a good season! It's no Glee, but it will tide me over until the new season starts in August and give me a taste of dance once the studio is closed for the summer. :)

We have 4 Azalea bushes in front of our house, but about a week ago they shriveled up and turned brownish. My guess is not enough water, but I really don't know. We have also discovered that we do not have an outdoor water spicket; one more thing to add to the repair list.
