Have you given up your cable? If so, where/how do you find your favorite shows?

I so wish you could pay as you watch.

Sort of. We got rid of real cable, and now just have basic cable because our internet bill is cheaper with it than without. We mostly get shows through Netflix, Hulu, etc. We also got a digital antenna (~$30) so the DVR can watch stuff for us.

I know people who ditched cable and just download shows off iTunes. A season pass is usually pretty reasonable, so if you don't watch a lot of shows, it's still cheaper than cable.

I have not had cable for over 7 years. It started out as not being able to afford it, but now it just feels natural not to have it.

Recently I got a Netflix subscription, but before that I would watch news on the network website (local news site varied depending on where I was living at the time), get weather reports from weather.com, had a library card (some libraries have a lot of movies miniseries and even shows), and a membership at the local video store. I also read and play videogames for entertainment, so there'd be little leisure time for TV anyway.

Mainstream (read:reality) shows have never interested me, and shows I do like I am content to wait until they are available on the web or DVD. I have also never been the type of person who puts television on as background noise. That's what music is for!

I've been without cable for 3 years now. I don't miss it too much. I watch what I want to watch streaming on Netflix, or now you have to pay to get illegal downloads on Pirate Bay, but I think the low fee on there is worth it if there's a show you really want to keep up with. Generally I'm too busy to watch too much TV anyway, so watching movies and series on Netflix is my answer.

We ditched cable last spring in favour of Netflix and other online sources...we were tired of paying for commercials and a whole lot of stuff we never watched. We both miss sports but Von can watch some of his online and I bought a Red Sox's radio package so I can listen to baseball games online (it was only $15 or something). Even with that and Netflix, our 'cable' bill is still 25% or so of what it was.

I agree, though...I look forward to the pay-for-what-you-watch days of tv. :(

Most of the things I want to watch are on Hulu, but the longer I've been without cable, the less aware I am of new or interesting shows, so the things I watch has dropped off as my interest waned or shows got canceled. cable-only shows like HBO/SHO series I just wait until they are out on DVD and get them from Netflix.

Eventually they show up on Netflix. I find I don't really care if I don't see them the same time everyone else does. And the ones I would like are typically cancelled after 13 episodes anyway.

I have not had cable in six years. Comcast kept cutting it off by accident if they installed it to anyone else on the floor so I gave up. I had to take a vacation day so they could reinstall.

As most people say: netflix, itunes, amazon, and most of the stations air the episodes for a few weeks on their webpages.

In addition, we have a $35 or so package from comcast that gets us the channels you should be able to get over an antenna because I got tired of trying to reorient the antenna every time I wanted to change the channel. But we've done without it for so long, I don't even watch shows that aren't on the basic ABC/NBC/CBS etc channels.

I have friends that just stay a year behind on shows and watch it solely through DVDs on Netflix (they run linux as their sole operating system and netflix streaming doesn't play nice with it most of the time).
