Its been an anime weekend - watched some more Starblazers, finally saw some Bubblegum Crisis and picked up a Gundam Wing DVD (Operation I) from my co-worker to watch tonight. I must get my hands on some Cowboy BeBop, I've heard many good things about it.

The car is finally in the shop today - I am anxiously awaiting the news from the dealer (to fix or not to fix?). They gave me some reassurance that it most likely is not the head gasket as the car has not overheated and that typically when there is a problem with that part you don't see much fluid on the ground as it ends up going through the engine (!). They've also told me just like my own mechanic did, that those cars are very reliable and that 80K isn't enough in mileage to expect a serious problem. Lets hope so!

I am sitting at my desk perusing LJ and waiting for a query to run. Its one of those days where there is a false calm - time to catch up on things before the next explosion. I should be receiving another Encounter Data file from the IS department to check either late today or early tomorrow. I check this file, it goes to the Federal Government and determines what we are paid for our Medicare eligible members. This $ gets passed onto providers and they in turn provide the health care. So we need to be REALLY careful and make sure that all of our data is accurate.

It was beautiful in Salem yesterday - free feeling while walking in the sunny streets and cold breeze while my hair blew all over the place and grew to 4X its normal size! We did some shopping and picked up some marzipan and fudge from http://www.yeoldepeppercandy.com/. I had some good clam chowder on the wharf while the others ate greasy fried stuff and then we took silly pictures at the gazebo on the common. On the way back to the car we checked out a comic book and collectibles store on Essex Street (the end near the Witch Dungeon Museum). They had the best toys I've ever seen including some rare Nightmare Before Christmas and Star Blazers paraphernalia. I wanted to pick up some Dawn comics but all they had were expensive autographed ones (I like Linsner but not enough to pay $20 for a $3 comic).

Its been a long time since we've gone on a "double-date" with another schmoopy couple. I usually hold back my affection for B because I feel that PDAs are rude unless in the proper context. Heh, even given the super amount of schmoopiness in the air we still held back - I think our anniversary drawing near has made our affections even stronger. I can't believe that we've been together now for 6 years!

On that note - we have tickets to see Rent at the Wang (heh) to celebrate. Any suggestions for a nice romantic restaurant for dinner beforehand? I was thinking somewhere in the North End but since I've only had coffee and pastry I just don't know where to begin looking. Another alternative we were thinking of was to keep things simple and eat a smaller dinner - and then splurge on desert and coffee after the show.

Dessert recommendation

Have a small dinner before the theater (or none, if you can stand eating late) and then head over to Finale.

Finale has absolutely decadent, yummy, wonderful, romantic desserts. If you want to have dinner there, the menu contains purposely light food for dinner (salads, quiches, simple sandwiches) so you can save your appetite for dessert.

It's not cheap. We recently had dinner at a decent Chinese restaurant, and then dessert and coffee (available with shots of booze and with Godiva chocolate for the non-drinkers) at Finale. The bills for dinner and dessert were about the same. It was worth it.

Plus, the waitstaff is friendly, and you can stay and be romantic for as long as you like.

It's at the tip of the triangular building that also contains the Boston Park Plaza, not far from the Wang Center.

Enjoy the show, and your anniversary!
