Life is passing so quickly nowadays. I cannot believe that next week is Thanksgiving!
We had a night in with some friends, chatting after dinner. Friday has turned into our have pizza at home and watch a movie night. We are enjoying setting up some regular meal nights. It makes the planning a bit easier.
This Friday my parents are coming by and we can go out! On a date! They are coming by after work and will be there around 5:00. We have to figure out what it is we'll be doing. I don't know what their expectations are as far as timing. They will have to drive home to NH after we get back, and they typically don't stay up too late at night. It kind of rules out a movie. I'm hoping there may be something starting earlyish at the Embassy so that we can grab a quick meal and catch something there. Going out to eat isn't so exciting, because for the most part, we're able to still do that with Mina.
We had a blast at Nick and Jillian's wedding! Brian got some pics, I think (I have a couple from my phone but they are far too blurry to bother with sharing). I've been in the Arsenal area a billion times, but never in The Commander's Mansion. There were a bunch of folks at the wedding, and a ton of dessert food to eat. Oh boy!
Mina had slept over at my sister's place and we went out to pick her up in the morning and to have breakfast with the family to celebrate Mom's birthday. We got home to visit with Nana Jan for a bit (Brian doesn't have any family, so our good friend's Mom is Mina's Nana) and then we had some productive time around the house. So needed! I felt like we weren't home all weekend, even though we were. A lot of running around in there. I need to work in finding a good balance of getting things done but not being crazy about it. I don't want that to be Mina's normal.
I went out to pick up some spices at Penzey's yesterday, and had lunch at Brigham's with Mina. The one in Arlington Heights is still there (the only one I can think of that hasn't closed). We visited with Jen, Mark, Di and Leo at home in the afternoon and then had dinner at Tom Can Cook with J&M, Sean and Krista.
It was a social weekend but a tiring one! I had been planning on going to Ceremony (!) for the first time in a long time, but I was exhausted, had a headache, and was starting to get that scratchy throat/getting a cold feeling. By bedtime I was feeling like a bus had run me over. Thankfully I felt a lot better this morning. I need to take care of myself, because having a cold while having a kid is so not fun.
Supermegafest is this weekend! We are staying overnight at the hotel on Saturday with Mina - a kind of experiment for us to see if this kind of thing would work for a con. I'll admit, I'm not so enthused about the whole weekend. I'll be glad to see people, but less and less am I thrilled by this convention. Since I'm not a drinker, the post-con revelry doesn't appeal to me. Not many out of town folks come out for it. I'm not big in collecting celebrity autographs. I need to figure out what kind of costumes to bring. As it is, we won't get there until late in the day Saturday, since we have to pick up our fresh-killed turkey from the CSA at 2:30 in Waltham.
Thanksgiving menu and shopping must happen soon. My brother has recently decided that he's going to be vegan. Any appetizer tips? They are going to bring some kind of fake turkey with them, and I know I'll have adequate vegan sides for them.

Date: 2012-11-13 07:55 pm (UTC)That's pretty much the reason why I never go out to SMF. I like hanging out with people, but the con is a) far away, b) I'm not huge on the getting-drunk-for-the-sake-of-it room parties that seem to go on. I much rather the social gatherings around the holidays that we've done.
