Watership Down
Aug. 14th, 2002 09:22 amThe bunnies should get their home this evening. They are going crazy from being cooped up in their temporary cages (imagine going from living in your house or apartment to living in a closet for 1.5 months). B and I decided last night to push forward the house stuff one more day and take this evening to build their condo.
Their main house will be two levels and will be inside of a space that was a huge closet before (its so high that I can actually stand up in there). You can see the opening in this picture along with the adjoining platform that we'll use for some shelves for pet supplies and for the bunny 'yard' or 'patio': http://thahood.net/images/08_-_den/?viewmode=gallery&image=14 . Later in the year we're hoping to build a little hutch on the outside of the house so they can hop out of the window that's on the platform and get some fresh air :)
So tonight, Operation "Let the bunnies run freely in the room and hope they don't kill each other" will commence. Batty was pretty aggressive towards Praline when we first got him but they seem to have mellowed out. Whether they truly are OK with each other or whether they are just tired and cranky of their own rights since they've been cooped up remains to be seen.
I need to get some peel and stick tile to cover up the little platform thing (the yellowish brown 1970's tile that's there just will not cut it) . I was going to try and cheap out and just cover it with contact paper but I think in the long run a proper fix would be better. I'll just use that black faux marble tile contact paper that I bought to cover up our pink faux marble formica from the 50's (ew) in the kitchen. I know its not the best thing, but I have tons of the stuff and its only temporary after all. Kind of like the floor that we screwed down: http://thahood.net/images/05_-_kitchen/ .
Tonight I can prime the downstairs bathroom (and if the stuff dries fast perhaps I'll even be able to get the first coat up there too)! It will be nice to get it done so I can do a thorough cleaning of the thing - its so dusty from all of the plaster that's been floating through the air. And we'll be building some shelves in there to store all of our cleaning supplies that are kind of scattered around the house right now. I'm glad that I had that idea; I'll be able to use the neat shower curtain that Tigerette gave me to cover the shelves and it will add some nice color to the room (hopefully drawing attention away from the bright blue 50's tile, toilet and pseudo-pedestal sink).
I'm feeling so mundane lately and can't wait to start classes, get back to the gym and do things not related to construction :) I love renovating things - but not all of the time!
