I want to try to update more here. I enjoy getting things out this way and enjoy the back and forth more than in other online venues. I'm just busy and out of the habit. I'm going to try a kind of standard format to perhaps help along the writing.

Health: not bad. I missed dance class last Tuesday as I was sore from a big hike and will miss this Thursday for Halloween. We still have challenges in eating better, keeping moving now that the weather is cooler. Plus the girl doesn't want to be strapped into a stroller much nowadays, so walking with her is more like running, and making sure she doesn't run into traffic. It makes it a bit harder to get exercise with her, unless we are boxed into a safe area like our back yard.

Dance: moving along. I'm enjoying the pace of things, learning new things but not crazy. I love the new zumba teacher, but hate staying so late so I haven't been doing that after tap class. I took Mina out of the class due to her age/running all over. We'll go to the studio Christmas party, and after the new year try again and see how it goes.

Work: busy busy! Still no boss and no idea when I'll have one. My review is due in a couple of weeks, and the CMO will be responsible for doing it. Company is cutting back, so increases are limited and if put into place are delayed a few months. We've had some bonus' in the past but I'm sure those are gone now that the boss is. Company announced its intent to join with Partners, assuming that regulatory things at the state and federal level are supportive. Lots of moving pieces.

Family/Friends: taking a trip in a week or so for Mom's 60th birthday to the White Mountains. Having fun at troops (RI Comicon!). Looking forward to holiday plans.

Nerding: I'm just not feeling it lately. I like seeing people but I just aren't into the costuming. Maybe because I'm feeling frumpy? Maybe because of the hard work involved in planning around Brian and I and Mina? I have no clue what I'll bring to RI Comicon. I have no clue what I'll bring to Megafest. I'm itching for something new, but don't know what. Also kind of done with organizational politics of the Star Wars groups. I feel like we need a big, exciting, charismatic kick in the butt, but don't feel like doing that myself. Who will? Anyone? Time will tell.

Our kid: she just amazes me, talking more and more. More and more fun to hang out with. She was a huge snuggle bug yesterday but woke up coughing. I hope it isn't going to turn into something big. We are doing more hands-on stuff with her now, having been given a Learning Tower (is it Montessori or Waldorf that suggests it? either way, we wanted one) by a friend. I cannot believe we are talking about her 2nd birthday party now! It will be a superhero theme since the girl is all about it now. Costumes encouraged! I'll have to get myself sewing capes for all of her little friend attendees.

Good Things:
-Sharing the holidays with Mina (now and planning for the next couple of months)
-All things Halloween
-Dresses with boots
-A snuggle kid sleeping in my lap
-Homemade (from a friend) cider from 10 apple varieties

Anything with the NEG, and if so, what can we do better?

The messes from above in both organizations don't make me very excited to be all "Ra Ra Legions, Go team!". Nerd drama just makes me sad. Moreso I think since being a parent and having a better appreciation of the really important things in life. It makes me want to go back to the pre-legions fandom costuming, and just dress up for fun because I love a particular genre. It makes me sad that I want to do this too! Our groups do good work and have good potential.

Locally, I think you and MIke have been great with communication of issues. Best in a long time actually. I think what we seem to be missing is a kind of 'spark' to get folks excited about trooping and building. I just haven't felt that in a long time. Granted, Brian tells me the Woburn parade was great! It could be that I'm just not seeing the spark since I'm not as active as I once was. When I do make it out to an event I'm not able to socialize before and after the way I did pre-Mina, because I'm chasing her around. Brian tends to be pretty connected still though (online and going to events), and has similar feelings.

The Legion stuff is pretty frustrating - I'm pretty tired of it as well.

I wonder what we can do to get the spark back. Personally, I think people have been pretty enthusiastic lately, at least the newcomers. The Woburn Parade was also had a good turnout and I think people were excited about it. I have to ask - my perspective can be pretty limited, and I'll be the first to admit that I've gotten pretty deep into the administrative things, which colors a lot of my relations with people, both from me and what is communicated to me.

Oh my friend, we are SO on the same wavelength right now ;) (but I'll go ahead and reiterate it a bunch of times below just for fun)

I want to try to update more here. ... I'm just busy and out of the habit.

Ditto. I was doing a pretty good job into the beginning of the summer, but I've really had a hard time finding the energy since September/October... But my post Sunday was an attempt to kick myself in the butt ;)

keeping moving now that the weather is cooler.

This is definitely something I'm worried about as the warm weather fades away... I'm perfectly capable (and equipped) to go out in the winter, but with shorter days and lack-luster weather it's harder for me to be motivated. Any ideas you want to share I'd love to hear (back in the midwest I'd do more mall walking, but out here the malls get so busy with holiday shoppers it drives me up a wall...)

Nerding: I'm just not feeling it lately. I like seeing people but I just aren't into the costuming.

Yep. I like (most of) the people, but I don't get a lot out of costuming itself... Slightly related, I've been having a hard time figuring out a costume for my office Halloween party, but that's probably a different story.

I had a good rant with deadwinter when we went hiking... but it didn't include any solutions...

We would do the mall walking thing often, Natick a lot of times because it is big and good for people watching (in the schmancy part). It is harder with Mina now. And yes, the holiday crowds make me run screaming!

The riverwalk can be quite pretty, given that we are bundled up well. I want to do more walking there. There are parts I've never seen that go past the Island Neighborhood (end of Woerd Ave) into Newton, towards Rt. 30/Brandeis. Then there are the parts in Newton/Watertown, near Watertown square that I just haven't walked in a long time. I kick myself for not taking advantage of this cool outdoor stuff in my own back yard.

I still want to try and get some kind of regular/social neighborhood thing going, be it a weekend walk/hike or movie night or something. There are so much of us around.

I really relate to what you said about nerding, only call it bellydancing. I still like it but it's just not a passion and a lot of it requires more effort than I can muster. Just a shift.

I think it's a similar reason too. I really enjoy spending time with my family, especially with my son, and that's taking top priority. I think my son is one of the coolest people on earth, and I know you feel that way about Mina too (and you should, she's really a great kid!)

capes

[livejournal.com profile] dee_cee and I sent to a birthday party on Saturday where the party favors were satin poly super hero capes with velcro dots for closures. Some of the kids even got capes of two different colors, so they could choose which color was inside and which was outside. Overall I think that all the kids liked them and it was something that did not raise a lot of allergy concerns.

so surprised hearing that you don't want to dress up... maybe there just isn't anything inspire-worthy enough. adorable-sounding b-day party though. lol
