I was grabbing some CDs to bring with me in the car this morning and when I went for the Apop I noticed a CD that B had burned for me a while back. It was from my old favorite local ska group, http://www.allstonians.com/ . I used to go to their shows all of the time.
Listening to that thing in the car made me remember old shows at the Middle East or TT's. I used to go with my friend C from high school and the two of us would be up in the front row, shakin' our butts and singing all of the songs (we also used to do that for http://www.arielpublicity.com/skavoovie/ shows too).
It made me think of that time period in my life - when I used to grab the Phoenix every Thursday morning before class and circle which shows I'd go to that weekend. They were most often ska or hardcore shows with the occasional friend's band show thrown in. I'm not sure how I was able to afford doing that since I only made $50 a week and had to pay for school books, car insurance, gas, car repairs, phone bill and a social life. Somehow I figured it out . . .
The city I'll always think of as my primary home (I was 9 when we moved there and I moved away a few months ago) has always been really big with the arts. B was amazed when I dragged him to a free event a couple of months before we moved where they unveiled the new arts center at the high school (there is an article about it on this page, 2nd one down http://www.reagleplayers.org/images/articles.htm ). I'm excited about our house and the sometimes convenience of the area, having lots of things around. But I am really homesick too.
There have been many bands hailing from our fine city and some of them have been doing very well for themselves. These include:

Damone (can't find a recent site), formerly known as http://www.noelletheband.com/ There's an accurate review here: http://www.epinions.com/content_2615517316
And of course we can't forget these guys http://www.7thrailcrew.com/

I need to get off my butt and go to a show soon (I need to really stop *saying* that and just go) :)
