The Hawks

Here's the 2 hawks that were in a huge tree across the street from our house. To get perspective of height, the top of that tree (with the birds) was probably about 40-50 feet high.

Now, can any bird people actually confirm something interesting about them? According to Vinnie (our overlly Italian neighbor) they are hawks but I don't know anyting about his bird watching expertise.

From the way thier tails look They are red tailed hawks one of the most common ones in the area, They looked like a mature pair most likely mates. The one on the top branch looked like the male when I was looking at them that day due to his slightly larger size. Red tails usually do very well as trained and/or rehabilitated hunters. The unfortunate thing is thier close contact with people often leads them into getting injured by human carelessness. You can't see as much detail in the pics as I was seeing through vinnies binoculars that day. They were a beautiful pair.
