Yep, I'm stressed. My body told me so this morning when I rolled over on my side and got a massive muscle spasm in my neck, shoulders and almost all the way down to my lower back. I yelped at Brian (it was about 7:30 AM, I think) and he promptly told me to take Alleve (I don't usually take any drugs unless completely necessary). I need to stop worrying about my own (and other's) shit so much!

I complied and painfully laid down again in bed on my back. About 5 minutes later the cat climbed up on my end table to drink the remaining water out of the cup that I didn't take with the Alleve and I tensed up immediately (in my back) thinking "shit, stop the cat or he'll knock over the cup and water will get everywhere". Laughing about it I said to Brian "ok, I know I'm stressed now . . . I just fucked up my back simply from rolling over and now I'm anxious because the cat is drinking from that cup . . .could you please move it so he can't get to it?"

So today I'll be on the couch with newspapers, books and homework until we go out later. Here's hoping I'll be able to drive since B really doesn't do well dealing with my car or driving in Boston.

Grrr.

hope you feel better.
chamomile tea seems to help as a mild muscle relaxant for me. i dunno if it would help you, but if you like herbal teas it might be worth a shot. you also probably want to make sure that you're adequately hydrated and that your electrolytes aren't out of whack.
Wrt to inflammatory conditions - low doses of NSAIDs (ibuprofen) at the beginning keep your body from hurting itself worse with a runaway inflammatory response, so you'll end up having to take fewer drugs if you don't try and tough it out at first. don't take enough drugs to totally mask the pain, though, or you may hurt yourself worse.
i picked my motorcycle up off the ground two days ago and the muscle soreness is just starting to set in today. (yeah, there is a clever way to do it, but there happened to be a car parked where I would have had to be to pick it up the clever way, so I had to resort to the inelegant "grab the frame and yank with all my might")

something i've wondering for a while - why do some people try to take as few medications as possible on principle? this is coming from someone who takes a lot of drugs, mostly psychiatric ones, every day. i wouldn't take a lot of drugs of which i didn't understand the mechanism of action, so i try to thoroughly research every drug i take, but once i'm satisfied that it will do me good, i take as much as i need to to get the desired effect.

*huggles*

Aleve is a wonderful invention - it's the only thing that works with my massive tooth pain. And B can handle it tonight, it won't be TOO bad, the place is right off the highway.

As soon as I'm free, we should take a spa day, I need to be forced into relaxing, and it looks like you could use it too. Hmmm, pedicure...... How delicious. *grins*

"why do some people try to take as few medications as possible on principle"

Being straight-edge, I like to put as few unnatural things into my body as possible. We're pretty efficient machines if we're treated correctly and its rare that things occur in my own body where medicinal drugs are necessary (i.e. I eat lots of fruit, get lots of rest and keep out of the rain to prevent colds rather then being doped up on cold medicine for a week . . . when I started developing problems with my shoulder I stopped carrying bags that way and got to the gym to start lifting and build up muscle so that it wouldn't happen again).

I don't think there's anything wrong with other people taking drugs if that's what's right for them (sometimes, its just what one needs to do, period). I've been able to find ways around most problems due to prevention or avoidance so that I could keep my body as clean and natural as possible (which is something that just makes me happy). I don't *feel* good when I'm using drugs, so why would I want to take them? ;)

But yeah - If I'm in pain that becomes disruptive OR could cause serious problems if not dealt with up front (like this back issue). I'll medicate. Otherwise, I'll just grit my teeth and bear it :)

Yup (its a bunny actually, stuffed with herbs). I have it around my neck right now!

Thanks for the hugs - I did end up laying on the couch most of the day before I got ready to head out to Medieval Manor last night. Of course as expected, I'm more sore today. Its too bad that tomorrow is when my next bellydance starts (grrr)!

I was watching some of "Bring It On" last night on USA.
At the end they do this "dance Thing" to "Mickey", and there's a screen shot I NEED B to help me acquire.

Eliza Dushku is singing one of the verses of Mickey, and being all sexy, and she reaches up and grabs her own breasts, and smirks into the camera. And that's when I realized I SO have the gay, when I said "HELL YEAH!" *grins* So I think I need that as an LJ Icon, but I couldn't find it last night online (And I looked *giggle*)

Once I get back from NYC we can talk about timing this girlie day, k?

Actually when I had really hurt my back my PT could tell when I had gone dancing... In a good way, gentle swaying small movement = easy gentle stretch for the back.
