Mar. 29th, 2005 08:12 amThe Goddess Dancing presents: Circles and Cycles
Contemporary Belly Dance
Sat June 25 8pm - Green Street Studios
Cambridge, MA
BOSTON, MA – For the 12th year, local area belly dance choreographers, The Goddess Dancing, will showcase their original choreography that is created collaboratively using a style of choreographed improvisation that has become their signature. It's live and real and never the same way twice. "Circles and Cycles" will be at the Green Street Studios for one night only, June 25th, at 8pm. Belly dance rises from its folkloric roots and becomes contemporary
dance art.
Each dance is a thread of "Circles and Cycles". The `Sea Anemone' plays on the foundation shape of the show, the circle, a pattern that repeats itself in the choreography of many pieces, making the shape come alive. Representing the simplest of sea creatures, the dance creates an underwater scene that both lulls and soothes.
`Circle Dream' comments on the decidedly human condition of uncertainty. If we were unconscious of our actions perhaps we would not question so deeply why we exist. At some point, we realize we are not the first to ask our questions. Indeed, we awaken to the nature of those who have come before us and gain strength in the circle of community around us.
And where does this cycle lead us? To the end, of course. `Crone Dance' leaves us with the question: how will you confront the inevitable? Amusing, scary, and poignant, the dance honors old age and our preconceptions of it.
The Goddess Dancing has been performing contemporary belly dance for over a decade. They are also master teachers with their own instructional video and ongoing classes. The owners and principal dancers of the company are: Anita-Cristina Calcaterra, Cathy Moore, and Karen Uminski. www.thegoddessdancing.com
