People, pictures and progress
Jan. 25th, 2007 08:12 amA friend finally posted his pics from the last Dragoncon (summer 2006). I can finally see the picture of the Tiggerette's dancer friend and I in the Hyatt. She told me to be on the lookout for her friend from New Orleans who would be in blue and in pointe shoes at some point. She wasn't too difficult to find.

I'm pretty awkward when posing for pictures. I can't get a good natural looking smile, so I'm normally looking tired or stoned or whatever. Although in fairness, it was 3:00 AM or something at this point. :)
The other thing that strikes me is how much thinner I look in that pic. This was at the end of my WW experience and I had lost almost 20 pounds from the Grad School gain. Yikes. Its been a while, but I still look at myself in the mirror sometimes and don't recognize me for me. Here's me in the same outfit, a couple of years or so before for comparison (check out that belly!) http://www.stormtrooperguy.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=4&pos=5 . That was Arisia 2004 - our first Arisia and my first drum circle. You've come a long way baby!
I've been weighing myself each week to make sure that I stay around the same general goal area, and I'm proud of the fact that I've been able to. Some weeks I'll gain a pound or two, the next week I'll drop it. Being female I'm sure part of this loss and gain is related to water, my cycle and all of that. Still, its neat to see how one can eat normally and kind of stay the same.
Sort of related, I was flipping through a couple of dance magazines at a book store last night. I noticed a full page ad for an Eating Disorders Prevention foundation that mentioned just that - eat what you want, stop when you're full and you won't have a weight problem. Its so sad that the arts can be so demanding to bring out such negative things in people's lives. I thank my teachers in the past for not being discriminatory or judgmental about weight, turnouts that were lacking a bit, and things of that like. I feel for the younger performers that succumb to those kinds of pressures, and hope they'll get the clarity and strength to rise above it.
