As already mentioned, we'll be working on costumes for DragonCon. We'll be doing:
Gendo Ikari and Misato Katsuragi (pretty simple to pull together, though must sew dress and jacket and order a red had and pick up a black&blue wig, I saw a good one at Newbury comics of all places).

Zechs Merquise (or is it, Miliardo Peacecraft) and Lucrezia Noin from Gundham Wing (yeah, I'm sure I butchered the spelling of those names). These should be interesting, we'll be making the uniform coats, I'll need to get boots somewhere and I'll have to find a good short purpley-blue wig that's in anime chick style.

And the most scary one of them all, Anakin and Padme from Episode II - I'm going to attempt to make the picnic gown. The only thing that really scares me is the bodice - I'll have to figure out a way to do it and make it look OK without doing crazy amounts of embroidery.

Any tips anyone? I'm not trying to be perfect here, these are all costumes I thought would at one point be fun to make and I could wear parts of them elsewhere later on.
And, would any of you sewing people be up for a stich-n-bitch? I have a paper due on May 20 and after that, my leisure time will be spend sewing (both for me, and for Swanstage, once they need me).

The only thing really scaring me is the Padme outfit. I figure, if I'm not able to pull it off I'll throw together something like the white outfit that I wore to Ceremony last month (but I'd really like to try) :)

Date: 2003-04-28 08:40 am (UTC)i can't find the pattern online to show you a picture, tho. i'll see if i can scrounge it up at home and at least tell you what brand and pattern # it was.
Padme dress
Date: 2003-04-28 08:52 am (UTC)I actually have one - the website that I got that pic from has some GREAT resources and suggestions for making it and I picked up some patterns this weekend.
I haven't done too much work with stand-alone corset things (I've made lightly boned bodices that were a part of a dress or made crappy quality bodices to wear to fair). This will be a challenge!

Thanks! I think this is referenced in thepadawansguide.com, that's an awesome website!
I was actually mourning the fact that you were in Texas, if you were still around I was going to see if I could commission you to make the corset for me (no embroidery, but cheating to make it look so) :)
I know you were planning on making that black/corset thing (and maybe one of the blue dresses too) at one point . . . any plans to do this soon?
YAY! We'll get to see you in August :)
Re: Picnic Gown
Date: 2003-04-28 09:58 am (UTC)Hmm... how would I go about 'cheating' on the embroidery?
Re: Picnic Gown
Date: 2003-04-28 10:02 am (UTC)I was hoping to find similar appliques myself and just sew them on (and again, I'm not going crazy or uber-accurate - I'm not that cool) :)
