From Dad about his painting stuff and our kitchen:
RE an art class/demonstration that he taught at the Catholic School my Aunt teaches at in Webster, MA to all of the older kids of the school:
" *Aunt's* school show was great, my work took up 9 full size cafeteria tables, did a talk and intro to graphics arts and the like. I saved the 9/11's [a series of paintings that he's been working on RE 9/11) for last and turned them around when I was ready to show them, all oo's and aww's (duh). The Worcester firefighter who helps out at the school sat silent in his chair for 15 minutes staring and then talked to me for about 10 minutes about them. He loved them and said they made him feel proud, numb, sad, better, proud, etc. He offered to play bagpipes at any opening if I wanted. I gave him an official NYFD hat given to me by the NYC firefighters museum after reviewing my art for consideration. He is bringing all his buddies to the Worcester show and wants to buy one of each of the prints."
For those that don't know, my Dad is looking into having this paintings as limited edition originals and then having prints made to sell. It seems like there's interest which is a really neat thing (for an almost 50 year old guy to finally be realizing his dream of having people buy his artwork).
OK, and I didn't know he was doing an art show in Worcester (!)
"Sister Daniel, (mother superior) blessed my hands !!!! (hope they were clean)"
hee hee!
"Now for your kitchen. First of all, the cabinets are ordered. I am planning to drop a dumpster on 5/30 and having you go nuts from there."
YAY! Anyone want to come by next weekend and help us rip shit out of our kitchen? And it looks like we'll spend some of this weekend re-arranging things in our dining room this weekend (stuff from the kitchen will be moving into there during the remodel - I see much microwave and grill food in our future).
"All the subs are busy and will fit in as we go along. We will be finishing up the Bedford bathroom the first week of June and will only be doing little fill in work as we work on your place....(like so I can pay some bills)"
My dad said "Subs", hee hee (he means the plumber and electrician, of course). This isn't really good though . . . the reason that this had been put off was so that the kitchen wasn't all ripped apart only to sit there that way until the subs were free - ah well, here's hoping it won't be like that.
"I am looking to start the elec/plumb part the 2nd week of june after we do all the prep work, that is the earliest they can get in."
OK, so things will be ripped out right before we have a large mass of people over for a BBQ. Those friends will be able to finally see what living like a Marmonti truly is! Ah the plaster and lathe, ah the dust everywhere, ah the stacks and stacks of drywall. The only thing we won't have is Typar or Tyvek (since this is inside work and all)!

Date: 2003-05-23 06:46 am (UTC)You know, I hadn't thought about it, but I could probably make a similar statement about my place. It's funny what you can get used to dealing with when you grew up with it. I totally didn't think 2x about having my kitchen MIA for a couple of months.
Fortunately my mom's pack rat gene seems to have skipped a generation so folks only have to deal with perma-construction :).

Date: 2003-05-23 07:45 am (UTC)we're going to rip things out of the kitchen, but if the electrician and plumber aren't there until the second week, there won't be any reason to have bought the drywall and such yet.
so we'll just have a big empty room with a fridge in it.
