My route to work is like that. I have to drive through a section of street in DC that services MD and VA drug purchasers - it is among the highest grossing illegal substance sales locations in DC. Apparently (and this comes as no surprise to me) there are occasional shootouts there over drug/money disputes. The only other way to get to work involves driving through an industrial area (junkyards and a cement plant) that is *too* quiet at night and not lit well enough for me to be comfortable driving through. At least the drug street is directly adjacent to the 24-hour gate of Fort McNair, where there are always at least 2 MPs on duty.
You know, it can really happen anywhere, but it is true that there are certain areas in towns that are more prevalent to crime. It's a shame we have to live in a world where things like that happen, but life must go on, and it just goes to show that we all have to be careful. No one is safe.
"Then I remembered that at one time in my life I was a "city girl" and somewhere in my brain I still had the city smarts. I think it's the city smarts that has kept this asshole serial rapist from being able to complete his "task" on his last 2 victims."
I do think that counts for a lot. I'm not scared to be in my house, only a bit more on-edge than usual. I'll feel better when they catch this guy.
"Anyway, what I'm trying to say here is... don't let the fear get the best of you. Besides, there's enough armor around the house that between your good Scooby senses and dancer's strength... you could probably level the wanker"
I would so love for the guy to come in while B and I are sitting in the dining room surrounded by swords or something :)
I do like the fact that when the women by the train station was stabbed that over 30 people call 911 at the same time. Not too many neighborhoods could say that!
