I went out for lunch today rather than my usual 'sitting at my desk with homework' routine. Its Friday and my vacation starts at 4:00 today, I'm splurging :)

Tori Amos' new CD is very pretty. Its a greatest hits album with 2 new songs, 2 b-sides and a DVD. She's in these retro 30's/40's style outfits with little hats and pink lipstick. She's got one thing backward though, the hat is always tilted to the left side, not the right. The last picture in the booklet reminds me of Miss Peggy - she's got "red" hair and I could see her wearing something like that (naturally she's a nice Irish lady with natural black hair, green eyes and pale skin, but I've always seen her with red).

Compare this now to Ms. Spears' new album (which I had to pick up, it was only $9 and I *do* like poppy dance music, I'm a dancer after all). Every picture in there is a "look at my abs, I'm sexy" one. I'm all for the 'if you've got it flaunt it' thing, but if you have to be like this in every picture on the whole CD, its kind of saying something. It goes to show what the major motivation for purchase will be. Nakedness is cool and all, but I'm immensely more impressed by people that can dress in a classy outfit and still knock you dead. :)

Soon it will be time for the annual decorating of Gram's gazebo. To save time I picked up a bunch of lighted garland at Target today (75 feet, hope its enough) rather than putting up garland and *then* the white lights. My Papa bought her that gazebo when he was still alive and they used to sit out there together. At first they decorated it with a lot of the stuff you'll see in the picture below (nativity figures, light up angels, plastic pointsettas, wreaths) and when they got a bit too old and had some difficulty with it Gram's youngest brother Bobby decorated it. Bobby's health started to go downhill so I took over gazebo duty (with Brian's help, of course). She looks out her dining room window into the back yard and can see it all lit up at night. She told me once that it always makes her think of my grandfather.

Gram entered us into the City of Waltham holiday decorating contest a couple of times. The first time we won 3rd place and got $50, the second we got honorable mention, after that we just figured it wasn't worth it (people constantly try and outdo themselves, say for instance these people).

I think we've been doing it for like 7 years or something like that. At first my Dad told me I was nuts for doing it, that it just wasn't necessary, and that she should just 'let it go'. Over time he's gotten to be less of a scrooge about it and he even helped us decorate last year!

Here's a pic of it during the day - you can't see it lit up but you get an idea of what's on it.
