Static

The thing that I really don't like about this weather is the static. My poor hair is taking a beating (although, I think in my sleepiness I forgot to use conditioner in the shower this morning, which could also be a culprit).

I'm almost done with my kimono-style dress. After whipstitching the inside of the band that goes around the front of the robe and *still* being unable to get the thing to lay flat I gave up for the night. I'll have to try it on tonight without having a sweater and work pants underneath to see where to hem it and put a hook to keep the thing closed (I'll have an obi-like sash and all, but I'd like some other security too)! I picked up that sash a year or so ago at Target because I knew that a funky obi-like sash for $10 was a steal. Someday I said, I'd make something to go with it . . . now is the time. :)

Does anyone know if its OK to press PVC if I put a cloth over it? The thing won't lay flat and I don't want to topstich it. This is the first time I've worked with PVC and I couldn't even tell you what kind it is (other than its black, has a cloth-like backing, was thin enough that I had no problem sewing through 2 layers of it with another layer of brocade, and that I got it at Sewfisticated for $4 a yard). Sewfisticated is my new favorite store - I'm amazed at how cheap they are! Since North End Textiles in Chinatown closed I haven't been back there . . . Winmill though cheap never had any amazing finds for me.

This will be a busy, busy week for me here. I have a lot of stuff to do to prep for a meeting on Friday and a meeting next Wednesday (being out of the office on Friday cuts some time for those out).

I adore Sewfisticated but . . .

the store manager (at least that's who I think she is) has got to be the most unpleasant person I've ever encountered at a store. Rude, brash, short with people for no good reason. Heaven forbid you should ever have to ask her a question about anything. Still, they have a wonderful selection and good prices. I bought some wonderul sheer irridesant purple material for a ballerina skirt I created a week ago. I love it when 60 inch wide material is only 3.99 a yard!

"the store manager (at least that's who I think she is) has got to be the most unpleasant person I've ever encountered at a store."

I've heard a bunch of people say this, I guess I've been lucky in that I've never had a bad experience.

A woman on Sunday (not sure if it was the manager or not) was really helpful to the woman in line in front of me, chatting about colors and styles of fabric they end up getting. Brian was able to find some good fabric for his Tuscan Raider Robe and when he asked if they had more she said "no, not here, if you want I could arrange to get it from our warehouse". He said no (he thought he'd just get by with what was there) and she said "OK, well if you change your mind just give me a call. If you tell me that its the herringbone patterned linen I'll know who you are and what you're talking about". She was pretty friendly about it too.

I haven't had people go out of their way to help me though (asking if I needed anything on their own accord) - that's something I see pretty often at The Fabric Place around the corner from my house. Its too bad they don't have the same selection of stuff for the same prices :)
