I was scared out of my mind last night. Wow, there's a lot of work in this class! How the hell am I going to do all of the reading, the weekly homework assignments *and* spend hours doing library research. What the hell?

And then it hit me. Um Dancer, this *is* your THESIS class after all. Right. I guess its a good thing that the Evaluation class will be more thought and less reading/writing than expected.

I have an idea for my topic (one related to my job, even). I need to discuss it with my boss and do a buttload of research this weekend to see if its feasible and if I can put the issue into a sociological context (a good thesis must be theory driven, after all). My topic is due next Monday and my research proposal is due on 2/16. We have things due every three weeks - after the 16th is our literature review, after that the analysis of our data, after that a draft of the paper, after that the final paper and a presentation to the class on it (a pseudo-defense). Yikes!

It was nice knowing you all, I'll see you in three months :/ I'll just be over here with my head buried in a book or a journal - alone.

i wish they had a better word than "thesis" for thesis. Thesis sounds so Intimidating!!

good luck with the proposal and the research.

Been there done that

I know it seems like a ton of work, but the payoff is worth it. As I was doing this while working full time as well, I hired someone to go to the library and dig out all the articles I needed. I did the research, printed out everything I needed and paid someone to do the leg work at $10/hr plus the cost for photocopying. I would say this was the best thing I did. If you need someone, I can ask around.

In terms of time commitment, I spent at least 6 hours on the weekend and one night a week where I just went at it. No draft was ever perfect but the pages added up and with feedback, it got better, but more importantly, it got done.

I have copies of everything I did in case you need them as a reference...and I would be more than willing to proof anything for you...I am pulling for you, good luck!

"I would say this was the best thing I did. If you need someone, I can ask around."

That may be a good idea. Let me know if there is someone at UMB that may be willing to do this. I *do* have time to kill in the library once a week but I may need help above that since I'm only at the campus 2 days a week.

"In terms of time commitment, I spent at least 6 hours on the weekend and one night a week where I just went at it."

For the Master's paper or Thesis? Not that the Master's paper isn't a piece of cake, but I'm guessing its less work than the full scale thesis would be (heh, or at least I'm hoping).

"No draft was ever perfect but the pages added up and with feedback, it got better, but more importantly, it got done."

Thanks for the advice. I *know* I'm a really good researcher and writer - this is the thing that I'm best at so its not the ability really, its just the time committment :)

"I have copies of everything I did in case you need them as a reference...and I would be more than willing to proof anything for you...I am pulling for you, good luck!"

Thanks! I may want to flip through it at some point as a reference. We saw some in class last night (2 of the 3 were people I knew before, and knew that they weren't the most studious or intelligent people in the world . . . and their thesis' still came out OK).

I feel your pain.
It's depressing looking out over the next three months, knowing I have NO social life, and very little sleep on top of that.

And seeing several engagements I HAVE to go to, like Bella Morte *silly grin* Wolfsheim, a visit from my friend J in England, and Voltaire at Haven (*Gags* but I MISS him!)

OK I don't HAVE to go, but I know about them so far in advance I should be able to, no problem.

*HUGS* I'm going to email you and B a list of evenings I'll potenially be available to come over, for business *evil grin*. I'd like to do it sooner than later, but given both our schedules, might be a week or two.

Sooner would be better for us too :)

I'm out on Monday and Wednesday nights so other ones or weekends would be good. Let me know what your thinking. The rumor is I'll get my W2s today (attached to my paystub) so if that's the case we have everything we need.

Ugh, I got a statement about that 401k loan that I took out in 02 and then didn't pay back totally (since I left Tufts). The data of the statement *is* 03 however. I'm going to get killed with taxes there . . .
