I talked with my Dad last night about this whole house thing. First things first, before we know completely what we can afford we need to know what we'll get for our house. If we got a good amount (say, 10k less than our broker wants to list it for) we'd still be able to pull off buying a house a bit higher than our original price range (putting 20% down, and having a monthly payment only a little higher than now). There are bound to be more houses open to us if we're able to increase our limit even a teeny bit.
I want to look at this one - its in Cedarwood (nice location), its a good size, seems to have expansion potential (could finish the 3 season porch, could finish basement). Its got good sized room, a dining room, and a fireplace. There are some good pix here:

We're going to try and get into it tonight. Also, its being sold subject to the owners finding suitable housing - something like this could work in our favor!
Anyway, wish us luck! We're going to take the plunge and sign things with our realtor tonight (hopefully getting an open house on the first weekend of April - weird). If you know anyone wishing to live in downtown Framingham in an awesome, big, completely updated colonial point them in my direction. :)

Date: 2004-03-18 07:45 am (UTC)We actually revised our upper limit while we were looking. We'd started at the 350k range, and the place we're buying is 371k. What's another 20k in the grand scheme, anyhow?! ;)
But good lord, how insane are things to be thinking that under 400k is reasonable?!
Yep!

Can't wait to see what happens once you get to market!
