We're going to my parent's house for dinner and a visit tonight, and bringing over some things that we're storing there until after we move. These are things that will be awkward to move (my Dad's painting that's been over our fireplace, prints from the walls, a small knick-knack shelf that my great-grandfather made, and some power tools). As more and more of our life comes down off the walls and more things go into boxes this place gets more and more depressing to be in. Its too bad, because some of you who never made it over here won't be able to see what it was like in its splendor (save from photos from our website).
It helps I guess that we have more rooms to put boxes so we don't have to crawl around them in living areas. I think having colorful walls (versus the plain white ones in the old apartment) helps too - despite taking down things there are still parts of us surrounding us.
Today we'll be doing packing/cleaning and yard work all day. I think soon we'll get to that point where all is packed save for what we use all the time. I can't believe we close in a little over 2 weeks! Despite the weirdness of packing up our lives and pulling further away from this place that has been home to us for almost 2 years we're getting increasingly excited about the new home. We've picked out the first paint colors and have had ideas on how to make some of the awkward/lack of space issues work for us. The Gothic Martha Stewart Site as the last time has been a nice source of inspiration, particularly the links to some of the gothically decorated homes: http://www.toreadors.com/martha/
Ze husband is stirring so I must get going - have a lovely weekend end everyone!

House Themes
Date: 2004-05-23 05:14 pm (UTC)Well, our current house is very Medieval - dark jewled colors, lots of gargoyles, weaponry and artwork with castles and royalty. Our dining room will keep that theme in the new house and probably our sitting room too (which is off of the dining room). The living room - perhaps more gothy/victorian, since it *is* a victorian house, the room has bay windows and french doors, and will have good colors for that (a grey-purple for the walls).
Our kitchen is already yellow w/ some white and blue tile - kind of has a southwestern feel to me as it is. We won't be doing much with it for the time being since we want to be able to move in and relax. When we bought this place we lived in it as a construction zone for 3 months, completely gutting, rewiring and rebuilding everything. So we're not looking for a project like that any time soon :) It will be very nice to be able to move in and unpack immediately!
What I'm excited about, is that we'll have a larger dressing/craft room. I haven't figured out what colors to do that in yet - I'd love to do a light green/blue sea foamy color in there, and get some art nueavo prints for the walls. Its a multi-functional room though, and Brian will have his action figures displayed on one corner, so I'm not sure how all that will work yet :)
Oh yeah, and we're having a Nightmare before Xmas theme in our full bath - we'll be getting a very dark/bright PURPLE paint for the walls, and have the NBC shower curtain and towel set. I'll be looking for some good accessories come Halloween to hold our toothbrushes and such in, though I do have a very cute hand towel with an embroidered bat on it :)
