Packing rambling:

The weight machine and old fridge are now gone. We'll get $50 and some Bertuccis "dough" for them - not a bad deal at all! Our basement is starting to look a bit naked . . . I think I want to spend tonight trying to finish up the cleaning down there. There are things already packed in bins that just need to be labeled. Also, we'll have a LOT of trash to throw away.

I'll probably try to get picture hangers, screws and nails out of the walls again . . . I want to get patching so we can do the touch-up paint and be done with it. The 2nd floor is almost ready for that - I just need a hammer to pull a couple of nails out of the craft room walls.

I'm running out of 'things we don't use much' to pack in the kitchen. There are some appliances and such that can go away (like, I don't think we'll die if our crock pot or blender is packed away over the next couple of weeks) but I don't have any more of those good medium sized boxes for them - only small ones. We're picking up a whole lot of boxes tomorrow thanks to Tobi and Network (and, some from my parents too) so I think we'll be fine with it. I still have tons of small boxes that would be good for packing CDs, DVDs, and things like that . . . but those will be the last things to get put away. There's also some of the Staples paper-sized boxes. They don't fit too much stuff either, so I've been trying to avoid using them. One thing's for sure, I'm impressed with how much stuff we've weeded out since we first moved to the house!

I'll call Nstar today to change over the gas and electrical. Brian is going to call RCN (we're going to see if we can get our old phone # back - I had that same number from the time I was in high school). I've changed my address with the post office - the others I think will wait until after we've moved.

Next week we'll be living out of our microwave and eating off of paper plates pretty much. I can't get over how strange and exciting this all is. The experience has been much different from the first time around - probably because I felt that we'd never, ever get here (and the first time around though exciting because it was our first house, was depressing because I knew I was giving up, and didn't want to live there).

I can't believe that we're buying a Victorian/Colonial in South Waltham that's not a total piece of crap. Its a small house and all, but damn . . . I'm still in shock. It was WAY, way underpriced for the area and despite the fact that we're buying something that was at our upper limit its still pretty amazing. Its shocking that we're paying more $ for the house but are putting 20% down, and got ourselves a kick-ass loan program with a way lower interest rate than before, thus paying less per month in payments.

I'm looking forward to walking around the neighborhood, getting fresh baked bread from the bakery next door on a Sunday morning and sitting next to windows to read the Sunday paper over breakfast, walking down to Moody on a Friday night for a movie or mid-week for an ice cream at Lizzies. I'm also looking forward to being able to walk down and take the 70 to Central Square again, or the commuter rail to Porter. Also, being near Prospect Hill, Harvard Square and friends. This all feels very decadent.
