I forgot to mention what my Dad is getting me for my birthday - he's going to pay for our dumpster rental. No, its not sexy, but it is $325 that I don't have to shell out. Go Dad! He acknowledged that it wasn't the most special or exciting gift, and said that if I wasn't interested he could take me to Burger King for dinner instead ;) .

Go Dad! The last time we bought a house (and, I had my birthday soon after) he gave us an electrical service upgrade for a gift. That of course cost more than the dumpster - between $2000 and $3000 (basically, $ for the new box and the time for the electrician to hook wires into the new box, and do all the connections outside of the house to the pole). He said that he was so proud that his baby girl was buying her first house, he wanted to help out in some way. Now we're on #2, and though he thinks we're nuts because he can't stand Waltham and wants to get away, he's proud of the fact that we're pulling it off in exactly the way we wanted to. (I'm sure it helps that he can walk over and visit whenever he wants too).

My family *is* nuts, but I like them.

Sometimes nuts is good. :) He sounds like a very practical man and certainly a dumpster is much more handy now than a housewarming plant.

ugh. i wish i had a 'normal' family that actually cares about other things than themselves. that's great your dad is doing that for you.

i'm SO looking forward to meeting p's family. he's already told me that his mom will adopt me if i'm willing. i thought that was so cute!
