Has anyone ever used a pedometer successfully?

My co-worker had one and said it was crap and doesn't work. It looks like the one I have is the same (its just frozen, and won't let me set it up).

Ah well - I guess I'll just have to guess how much I'm walking during lunch :/

Well, I did get a cheapo one from McD's that worked just fine for the first week I used it--put it away for a month, and it's dead. I did get a good idea of the average amount I walked. They are finicky, though--they have to be rather particularly set up or they don't count correctly. I'd sort of like one that monitors heart rate and pulse, but that gets a bit expensive for curiosity.
