Accommodations are booked for our trip. We'll be at this place in London http://www.hotellondon.co.uk/ for a few days (thanks to the Di's for the tip). Its not fancy, but is cheap, and will serve its purpose. In Scotland, since we won't be able to stay for too long we'll base our center of operations (heh) in Edinburgh. We'll be staying here http://www.turret.clara.net/ thanks to the tip from Righinnbear (a friend of a LJ friend) which was reported by many as the best B&B they've stayed at in the UK, and was recommended by Rick Steve. We'll check in on the night of our 6th anniversary (awwww) so hopefully we'll find something special to do for dinner that night nearby (the B&B is about a mile from the downtown area).

I think we've resolved the petsitter thing (Jen, we need to have you for/take you to dinner to chat about it). Next, we'll be figuring out getting from London to Edinburgh and then the fun stuff - planning activities with all of the books you nice people have leant/bought us! :)

Anyone know of a good goth, metal or new-wave club in London that's not uber-exclusive that we'll need to know someone cool to get into? We'll have the weekend there and I'm looking forward to checking out some of the night life. :)

Pick up a copy of Time Out when you're in London. There will be club listings galore, along with tons of other info and articles.

This is a good way to find out about clubs:
http://www.londonnet.co.uk/ln/out/ent/clubs.html

A lot of the 'alternative' club nights are on weeknights. :(

But! Pump Up the Volume at the Underworld (Camden) is on Fridays.

And there's always the Slimelight...

Let me make a suggestion?
NOT CHEAP - D and I spent easily $150, after exchange rate. And we stayed because of the supurb wine list - good for the Wine Buyer, not for you non drinkers.

but
Witchery by the Castle
crappy link: http://www.thewitchery.com/home.html

You want the Downstairs dining room. This is the place that had hand painted Tarot cards on the ceiling, and was lit entirely by candlelight. We ate after 11PM, and it was JUST dark out. (Gotten love that!) It's SO GAWTH, but such a lovely place! You get a cute little table for two, nice quiet romantic dinner for two.

*squeeee*

And I'll arrainge an evening soon - plus there's taxes to do at some point soon, once the forms come out.

PPS - Some quick inquiries can bring you people to get you into Slimes. If Pir isn't available, I have several on my friend's list who will be happy to escourt you. It IS very Gawth, and people like BMovie more. There's also an LJ if you're so inclined.

Getting into Slimes isn't hard these days, you just need to look appropriate.

There are clubs where the DJs play metal. Membership not needed. This is a wonderful thing. Mich and I passed a couple walking through Soho but I can't remember their names. One of them proudly announced they were spinning Judas and Maiden.

Also try Gossips. It looks like sort of a Gothic Hobbit hole.

My suggestion is to go to Camden Town and pick up some flyers, particularly at some of the below-level record stores.

And yes, first thing you do grab a copy of What's On.

Turret House

I'm glad that I could help. We were in Room 2 at Turret House. They knew that it was our honeymoon, so the bed had a pair of teddy bears in wedding attire sitting on it when we walked in to the room.

As for getting around, the bus picks up and drops off about 1 block from the House. There are some excellent restaurants in Edinburgh. I'll try to find the place that we had dinner for our 6 month-iversary. It was underground and small. The prawns were incredible.

Personal opinion - skip the tour of Mary King's Close. Interesting story, not so good tour and effects.
