On Friday we visited the Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence RI with the 501st. Here's our pics http://www.501neg.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=225 (none of kids, legal issues and all that).

Hospital visit details, Motley Fsckin Crue, The Incredibles, Some Kind of Monster:

The troopers were split into 2 groups and I ended up in the less severe of the two (Ambulatory, regular Med/Surg and PT floors and units). The other group headed not only to a Med/Surg floor but to the ICU, a bit tougher to take (from my experience). There were a couple of really sweet kids in particular that were SO excited by the experience. One is going to name his stuffed animals "Darth" and "Vader" thanks to the visit. Another had some assistance in an Uno game from the dark lord himself (against her parents). Of course, someone still asked if I was Princess Leia (in the Royal Guard costume, bucket off). Heh! I think like cats and dogs, kids sense who doesn't want to be near them and they gravitate toward those people. Brian got hugged by 2 kids (around age 5 I'd guess), one of which even kissed his armored hand. Who would have thought of storm troopers being hugable?

Other rocking parts of the weekend included Motley Crue at the Garden (whoot!). They sounded great, looked great, I loved the whole circus theme (women hanging from the ceiling) and only regret that Tommy wore pants (the last time I saw him he was in much less behind that drum set). We were on the floor, about 1/2 way back (not too bad) and had the best people watching opportunities both before the show (dinner at Hooters), during and after. I loved some of the merchandise, but only picked up a t-shirt. They were selling the foam hands (like the pointing fingers that you'd find at a football game) that were red, said "Motley Fscking Crue" on them, and were throwing the goat. It was cute seeing 12 year old kids in the audience waving the large foam goats sitting next to their mom's, probably overlly excited about the "titty cam" (in true Boston puritanical might, the Garden people shut off the monitors once they knew what was going on).

We finally saw The Incredibles (awesome on so many levels) at a friend's birthday party. I could totally pull off an Elastic Girl costume, I've got the "endowments" of sorts. :) We wound down over laundry, geeking, knitting and watching some of the extra features on the Metallica "Some Kind of Monster" DVD (go Netflix!). It was neat seeing the full version of Lars and Dave Mustaine's conversation. Also seeing more on the situation with Jason was interesting. I particularly liked "metalhead bowling", and I really want Kirk Hammett's house and his dogs. He's married to a gal from Medford, MA (Brian just missed meeting him at a local comic book store back in the 80's that Kirk visited when in town to see his wife's family). :)

The next few weeks will be busy with trooping events, since we'll be marching in the Hartford CT St. Patrick's parade (3/13) and in the Boston St. Patrick's parade (3/20). On Saturdays I have dance class for a good chunk of the day, so it makes for a busy few weekends coming up. :)

Kirk Hammett is married?

Now I recall Brian telling this story, but I keep forgetting it and thinking he is in the closet.

Kirk

"Kirk Hammett is married?"

Yep. And was when I was 14 too. If you saw any of the extras on the Some Kind of Monster DVD his father in law makes an appearance, showing Bob how to play some weird guitar-like instrument :)

I haven't seen the extras -- I haven't seen it since we watched it in the theater, the Sat. night thing never got planned, my bad. We watched sky captain and ate ice cream after our exciting trip to the apple store.

Lord yes :)

Ohhhh, I would LOVE to see that. Though I doubt it would change my mind about Lars being a dick

Lars is a dick

"Ohhhh, I would LOVE to see that. Though I doubt it would change my mind about Lars being a dick"

Lars came out and basically said "yeah,I felt like an ass, and I did feel bad about your feelings, despite being one that also came to the decision to can you".

The extras are definitely worth it - Brian and I watched almost a couple of hours of them and still have more to go. I knew I wouldn't watch more than once, so I didn't buy the DVD. Netflix is a wonderful thing! :)
