I booked the one tour we'll do while in London, this one:
http://www.astraltravels.co.uk/uk-london-tours/bath_stonehenge_tour.htm . It looks like the same company does a good deal of tours in Scotland leaving from Edinburgh, we'll get some info from them once we're there.

We are going to stick to taking the train from London to Edinburgh and back. We'll come back on the 16th and need to try and find a place to stay in London on that final night. Now if only the http://www.gner.co.uk/GNER/default.htm site didn't suck so much. Trying to order tickets online I get about 1/2 way through the process and can't find a way to continue (no "next" button or anything like that). I'll try again later - I don't have the time to fight with it any more at this point.

I'm so psyched! I can't wait :)

We did 2 tours with Astral:
Stonehenge/Avebury/Salisbury
Bath/Castle Coombe/Lacock

Both tours were excellent, despite the shitty weather the day of the Stonehenge tour.

I didn't realize you were getting out to Salisbury! If you get half a chance, go see both Salisbury Cathedral and Old Sarum. Old Sarum is probably the best-preserved iron-age hill fort around, if you're into that kind of thing. The walls are so steep and the ditch around it is so big, that even after 1200 years of erosion, you could probably still defend it against hundreds of attackers with just a handful of defenders.

try www.thetrainline.com - it's what we use ourselves over here! - GNER is totally unreliable (and so are their trains). If you want to spoil yourself, why not do the Caledonian sleeper... never done it myself but supposed to be v fun.

To find affordable places to stay in London, check out either www.lastminute.com or better still, www.octopustravel.com - you can find good deals on there and the info is reliable. Plus they give total price of the stay in dollars...
