I love weekends. They really help me to feel alive.
Brian and I had dinner at http://www.bisoncounty.com/ last night. Despite it being one of the first 'trendy' restaurants (Iquana Cantina being the first) to move onto Moody Street I had never eaten there before. It was comfy, they have an open grill in the back so you can watch them cooking your food, and we enjoyed our meals quite a bit. We headed out to the Framingham area with a quick stop at http://www.russellsgardencenter.com/index.htm for some herbs (they were open till 8 PM, great!). I'm excited about our little herb garden right outside the back door - here's hoping I don't kill them all! We picked up a couple of strawberry plants too, and will see if they take next to our large tree. Being a garden center they definitely weren't cheap, but they seemed to have a much better selection than Mahoney's (who was closed, but who we usually stop at since its the first one we come to). The woman ringing us up suggested holding on planting for another week or so to make sure that cold wouldn't kill them. Next up for yard planning will be clearing and planting a spot with veggie plants. I've got old seeds that I picked up at the New England Flower Show a couple of years ago.
We were planning on catching Sin City but had time to kill, so we did some window shopping for a new patio set for our yard. We really love one of the ones we had seen at at Target pic (they had it at Sears too - and was cheaper there), but just can't fathom spending $1k (table, 6 chairs, umbrella and base) on something that will sit unattended in our back yard for a good part of the day. We'll end up getting the cheapie one they had at Christmas Tree Shop instead pic , hopefully next week some time if they don't sell out by that point. If anyone wants some white plastic patio chairs (the stackable ones) let us know - we'll have 6 of them up for grabs. We're keeping the table for a work surface in the garage.
After going around looking at Patio sets Brian and I decided to skip the movie for some time at home together. Today has brought with it a good ballet class, some work around the house, and picking up groceries. I even had time to cut out the pieces for my ANH Princess Leia dress (I'm hoping to open the serger box tomorrow and figure out how to use the thing, because it would be great to do the Leia dress with it given its ravelly fabric). Now I'll sit in the den and watch the Japanese original version of "Shall we Dance" and knit a while before heading to the ooky-spooky goth/fetish night in Everett. Free time is just so precious, and I can't get over how amazing it is to have it after being crazed with Grad School + working full time for 3 years.
Happy Beltane all, love is in the air (despite this rain)! :)

Date: 2005-04-30 09:52 pm (UTC)Fertility, certainly: this is good growin' rain! =) Hours of light soaky drizzle up our way, the veggie beds look so dark and fertile and happy!
You can keep the plants where you are going to plant them during the day, and bring them inside to protect from a last-gasp frost (that way they'll be used to the sun they'll get in that area). My tomato and pepper seedlings are so ready to go into the ground, but I'm holding off 'til next weekend. I am going to plant seeds tomorrow, however!
