COSTUMES/DANCE:
The humidity almost killed me yesterday, but I got my Leia skirt sewn. I also hemmed the edges of my veil with a rolled hem using the serger! Of course, I fought with the machine for an hour to figure it out (and had assistance from a few other curious sewing peeps who also haven't used sergers yet). I'm loving the fabric, its so sparkly and I think a perfect addition to the costume. I have rehearsal tonight and tomorrow at around 8 for the 2 group dances, so I'm hoping to finish up my solo routine before then and run through it at the studio in the 15 minutes between rehearsal groups over the next couple of weeks. And for a nice article on women's fitness, body issues and bellydance see Margaret Cho's writeup here: http://www.margaretcho.com/blog/bellydance.htm
FRIENDS:
Our costume/prop day went really well, and the house was filled with SW nerds of all persuasions. We grilled a bunch of food, celebrated a friend's birthday, and shared our geeky talents in helping each other out with costume and related assembly. It was fun to have other sewing people to bond/brainstorm with while the majority of others worked on armor or prop bits downstairs and outside. Its also nice to slow down from the crazy movie promotion mania and just hang out and be creative with like-minded peeps once in a while. :)
FOOD:
The cole slaw worked out really well. It took most of the cabbage and actually, I could have thrown more in and been fine. I'll throw the rest in tonight and perhaps strain it because its a bit too liquidy. Then, we just need to use up 1 head of bok choi which should do us with a stir fry (so no freezing). I'm really getting into cooking having better, fresher, more interesting ingredients.
DAD:
I still have no clue what to get my Dad for Father's day. Its weird, because usually I have no problem with this. I'm going to offer our house/grill up for a Sunday BBQ if he wants to go that route for his day, so he doesn't have to worry about prep, cooking or cleaning. Alternately I suggested perhaps a family trip in the van to the beach or the mountains (we shall see). :)
