Or anyone who cares really - a Jawa tutorial from the guy at Man Ray last Friday
BOOTS:
- black rubber rainboots (I bought mine at Walmart)
- 10 yards of Cocoa Brown colored cloth (got this at walmart too, you wont need 10 yards but believe me, its better to have that much in case you mess it up the first time)
- black spray paint
- spray can glue
cut the brown fabric into strips and spray the outside of the boots with the glue really good, and then wrap the fabric from the top to the bottom around the boot in a spiral. Make sure you tuck in or even staple the ends of the fabric to the boot so it doesnt unravel when you walk. After the glue dries, randomly splash the fabric with the black spar paint to give it a weathered look
ROBE:
I had a friend who is a tailor, make me the robe, he took my measurements and sewed in a velcro strip down the front, and sewed in a plastic "halo" in the hood to keep the hood that shape without falling into my face, and we frayed the fabric along the 2 sleeves and the bottom. If you would like to get in touch with him, e-mail him at info@kambriel.com his name is Chris and tell him Brian refered you and you are in the 501st. He does AMAZING work, and he's cheap. He did Sean's Jedi robe and is working on Stephanie's wedding dress for our wedding!!!
BANDOLIER:
- 3 pouch World War II German Ammo Pouch (i bought mine on ebay)
- 5 pouch 1903 Canadian Mounted Police bandolier with strap (also bought on ebay)
HOLSTER:
yup, I had Ashton make this for me, he built it around the actual blaster and using all the reference material in the visual dictionary. You might wanna talk to him about making this.
BLASTER:
I bought mine on ebay, if you want the actual screen accurate one like I have, its pricey but worth it. Keep doing searches on "Jawa Blaster", you will have to sift through the people selling the action figure one, but there is a guy who builds them and auctions them off. He takes a real Enfield Rifle, welds it shut, and builds the Ion cap on the top etc. The blaster and shipping cost me about $400
- black garden hose
- larger blue ice packs
- brown duct tape
take the garden hose and cut it about 5 feet from the spicket end. the newly cut end will fit perfectly into the hole in the handle of the blaster that is there naturally alreadym I get it to stay in the hole by wrapping the end in duct tape so the sticky side is facing out and cramming it into the hole, the tape does keep it inside. Then you take the spicket end of the hose and, oddly enough, it snaps in PERFECTLY over the roud top of a large blue ice pack that you would get in the camping section of walmart. I then wrapped the ice pack with the brown duct tape
POUCH:
once again, I had Ashton build me a brown pouch that the ice pack perfectly sits in with a hole on top where the garden hose fits into so I can plug it into the top of the ice pack. Having the holster on my right and the ice pack / pouch on my left, the garden hose goes around my back.
GLOVES:
- black winter or black gardening gloves
- black fuzzy boa
- 2 fishnet arm warmers
sew 2 good size patches of the fur to the top of each glove right below the fingers. I wear fishnet arm warmers on each arm because when you raise your arms past a certain point, the robe slides down a little and nothing ruins the effect in pictures when you see a full Jawa and see their human arm underneath, so this turns your arm black in pictures
FACE / EYES:
- grim reaper invisible face mask
- hockey mask
- x2 35mm film tubes
- x2 orange jewels or diodes (I got mine at AC Moore)
- x2 white or yellow LED lights
- x2 AAA battery packs with on/off switch (got at Radio Shack)
- velcro
- black electrical tape
- screws
- black paint
take the hockey mask and paint it black, take the 35mm film tubes and wrap them in black electrical tape, scrap off the white residue at the botom of the film tubes so the bottoms are now clear, glue the orange jewels/diodes to the bottom of the tubes (this will be the eyes), screw the lids of each tube to the hockey mask right underneath the real eye holes so you can snap the film tube right to the mask, drill a small hole through the mask into where each film tube will be (this is where you feed the LED light through the mask and into the film tube), velcro the AAA battery packs above each eye and feed the wires into the small holes that are already on the forehead of the mask, electrical tape the wire to the inside of the mask and attach the LED to the end of the wires and place them into the film tubes, put the hockey mask inside the grim reaper mask and make a small cut ehere each eye will be and push the eyes through so it stays snug to the fabric of the reaper mask (this might make a lot more sense if I show this whole thing to you next time I see you)
SOUND:
- Newton voice amplifier (found anywhere online)
- MP3 player
- 6 foot headphone wire with 2 male ends
I have the voice amp on my stomache and I run the wire up my chest, down my left arm, and the MP3 player sits under my glove in the palm of my hand. I have now 13 different Jawa noises loaded onto it so all I have to do is press my index finger to my palm and it triggers the next random jawa noise
