We did make it to Dark Sky after dinner at Iguana Cantina last night (yum)! I really liked Forever's Fallen Grace - take Iron Maiden and mix in a tiny bit of cookie monster vocals and some Joey Belladonna. They were a lot of fun! Coven of 13 was - different- than the last time we saw them. Their singer was off-key and didn't look at the audience at all (she just kept facing either side of the stage, dancing kind of in her own world. Its too bad, because she was definitely enthusiastic. Hanging out with friends old and new is always good. We missed the last band in favor of getting at least 6 hours of sleep; I had a meeting this morning and had to be presentable for it.

On the way there we picked up the new Alice Cooper album, "Dirty Diamonds". Its got an old 70's Alice feel to it and I love some of the songs, find some to be just Eh, and really can't stand some others. All in all, not bad for $11. He seems to embrace the cheezy Alice stuff and push it a little too hard in this album, but I'm not disappointed. We also picked up the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" soundtrack. Its got the awful, scary catchy opening song, the various Oompa Loompa songs and the score. Gotta love Danny Elfman!

It should prove to be a busy weekend. Brian and I have a date on Moody (or something) tonight. HE'S NOT ON CALL FOR ANOTHER FIVE WEEKS! Let's celebrate! :)

Nice to see you guys last night! :)

I am greatly entertained by Forever's Fallen Grace, Mike loves to play rock star, and he does it so well, got all the moves down (must have watched alot of Headbangers Ball in the 80's ;)

The new singer for Cof13 is really shy.

"The new singer for Cof13 is really shy."

I felt bad, because I wanted to like her. I wonder if she couldn't hear the band and hence the singing? It sounded off key to me all night :/

She is very enthusiastic though! That's a good thing in a front woman :)

My hearing must be going...you're the second person who said she sounded a little off, but it sounded fine to me.

Very different from the singer they had at the Skybar show last year, though...way different delivery. Stephanie #1 was more Joan-Jettish, and this one (Stephanie #2) is more shock-rock.

I saw singer #2, I can't remember her name but she was in there briefly after Stephanie #1 left and Stephanie #3 started.

Stephanie #1 is Sandweasel Brian's Fiance (she's in the Navy as a nurse with a specialty treating burn victims and is waiting to be deployed to Iraq - that's why she had to leave the band).

I knew she was in the military - had no idea she was a nurse.

Yeah, the band's had 5 singers since they started.

Yeah she was off, but she found her voice at the end and sounded worlds better, has a sort of torch song potential, she should go for that rather than straining and yelling, it's going to ruin her voice in time.

I can definitely see the torch song potential in there. I kept thinking "she must not hear the musicians, she must not hear the musicians" because it seemed she had the voice in her, just wasn't singing on key.

I'm with you on the straining thing. Yelling <> singing (and the music doesn't seem to lend itself well to the yelling the whole time tactic).

Either way, we enjoyed the show. It was nice to see you (albeit, briefly) :)

There was another singer at the SkyBar not long ago who was consistently off key, and you could tell by her expression she couldn't hear the music at all. The last three songs were softer and she found her voice, was noticeable.

I had little voice at all last night, had been training newbies all day and one is semi deaf, arrrrgh, but I waved when I could :-)
