I just wrote this e-mail to our local newspaper (which pretty much sums up my morning):

Hello,

I'm a Waltham resident and live on Newton Street over near the Newton line. This morning I left my house at around 7:00 AM to find a racist flyer in a plastic bag with a rock to keep it from blowing away on the sidewalk. Looking around it seemed that my neighbors also had the thing in front of their houses.

I've heard about this happening in Newton quite often but never in Waltham. Leaving things like this isn't illegal, so I'm not calling the police. I thought someone would want to know though.

It reads "MISSING" at the top, and shows a picture of a blond, white child underneath. The text underneath reads:
"A Future for White Children. Description: Blond, red, or brown hair, fair skin; innocent, inquisitive, intelligent, trusting personality. Corrupt politicians and minority special-interest groups have abducted her future. There will be no future for her in the Third World America that our nation's enemies are planning. Let us take back out country and make it great, clean, decent and beautiful once again. For our children's sake. The men and women of the National Alliance want you to join in this great, patriotic effort."

The organization is called the National Alliance, a PO box in West Virginia is given, and two websites: www.natvan.com and www.natall.com.

Ironic isn't it, considering our city was built on the labor of immigrants during the boom of the industrial revolution? The damn US industrial revolution started in Waltham, MA actually (which for the most part was staffed by people coming from other countries, my family included).

I noticed that these were in front of houses in our section of the street but driving closer to Main (i.e. the poorer, more run-down section) they were curiously missing. Suprised? Not really. Fscking cowards!

i really hate the phrase "special interest groups". there's no such thing as a special interest group, just a portion of america whose needs should be considered in the improvement of america (or the direction that politicians wish to take the US).

of course, some portions of american society, like the one above, are disgusting beyond belief.

I actually found something similiar in front of my house two weeks ago, but didn't see it near the neighbors (although I think it has been in front of our house for a few days). I didn't actually even bother to open the bag, just took a look at the headlines and dumped it in the trash.

we've already had that flyer in our town. (about 2 wekes ago or so) The car (if I'm right) that was used was an old caddy/tank/type of car with flaked blue paint. I am only guessing because the car was turning around quickly and left the area in a hurry. I pretty much know all the cars that normally come by our street, and this one seemed out of place an in a hurry to leave. It was also in th early AM that it was seen.
Same flyer and rock. I believe the same flyer was already in our town maybe a month ago, I remember seeing something in the police reports.
At least you're doing something about it, and that's a good thing. So apathetic am I that it went straight to the trash without opening the bag. I was impressed with all the effort this person went to- all for the children's sake. What would we do without children to make an excuse for our perceived inadequcies. Hmmpf. What a crock of fetid lard!

Ah well, I do think it is ironic about the fact Waltham was targeted. My town however, is *known* for being overlly-suspicious (shall we say) of any race other than white. Which, thankfully, is being adressed at the town council now- so I suppose people are slowy getting their heads out of the sand, and finally listening to the expeirence of others rather than "oh, that wouldn't happen in OUR town. We're too nice, polite, we'd NEVER perform racial bias". heh. The world it turns, turns upside down, and stands upright what was broken in the turning.

it hasn't helped matters here in Maryland. there's been newspaper stories, tv stories, complaints, etc. whoever is doing it just keeps putting out the fliers and still no one seems to know a thing about it.

How pathetic some people can be. They hit Arlington once in a while too--I think it is actually appropriate to report it to the police, because I have read in our town paper that the police are the ones who go and collect all the flyers.

I have also noticed the same cowardly pattern in Arlington--East Arlington, which is more diverse and closer to Cambridge, rarely gets flyered, whereas the central and heights areas are hit more often, usually the areas closest to Route 2.

The ironic thing is that South Waltham is pretty much where the majority of minority residents live in the city (i.e. near Moody Street). Our section of the street on the whole is no different demographically than further down the street (it just looks different).

I'm curious to see what kind of attention (if any) this brings.

I may call the police station later today, to see if they want this gem of a thing. I felt for my poor bag having to carry it into my office today actually!

We got one of those several months ago - similar flyer, plastic bag, rock. My mother threw a fit, probably loudly and in the direction of the town paper. She pointed out that under no circumstances was a rock tossed at the house NOT threatening.

those exact same fliers have been spread around the Annapolis area. there has also been racist slurs spraypainted on fences and sidewalks, etc.

they've had stories on the news about them for a few months now and still no leads as to who KEEPS doing it.

the whole idea is positively revolting. why can't people just let well enough alone? if you don't like someone FINE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE and NOT LIKE THEM OVER THERE. :P~
