My watch died again. I usually wear a simple ladies timex with one of those elastic metal bands that has an indiglo background. I use them till they die and buy another of the same one (usually at Sears, so that they can resize it for me in the store . . . I have small wrists and hands). They get fairly beat because I'm not too careful with them. There just isn't a reason to take good care - they are kind of unexciting.

I've been wanting something a bit nicer but not too nice. I don't wear yellow gold jewelery, so nicer ladies watches tend to be more frouffy than me or the other things I'm wearing. I can't believe it hadn't hit me before - I need a Waltham watch! I've wanted some kind of Waltham clock for the house and periodically check ebay (and even had a general style picked out). Some googling around found me this http://www.watertownwatchandclock.com/ . One town over! There is a neat story about the owner and his grandfather.

I e-mailed him:

"Hi Chris,

I found your website while searching for 'boston vintage waltham watches' and wanted to contact you. I'm a lifelong Waltham resident, and have been meaning to get myself some kind of vintage Waltham clock or watch for a long time. My grandparents actually met while working at the watch factory, so the place holds a special meaning for me. I was so happy to find a place right next door in Watertown that caters to these kinds of things!

I hadn't thought until today about getting myself a Waltham wristwatch (but my old timex just gave out, and I need to find something new)! I'd actually prefer something I could wind so I wouldn't have to worry about finding and changing batteries. It seems that most of what's out there on e-bay and at stores for old Waltham products are pocket watches or a few thick men's watches (I'm female, and have pretty small hands anyway so I'm looking for something smaller). I was wondering if you may have any old Waltham wrist watches in your store that are working or workable that aren't on the website (I notice one is up there that's already sold) and if you don't, if you could keep me in mind if you get any in, or if you may know where I could start searching for one.

Unrelated from my bare wrist, I've also been keeping my eye out for one of the old Art Deco style Waltham mantle clocks for my home. Is there any chance you have one of those around?

Thanks for your time!"

Why do I always find myself in these little weird research projects?

That sounds cool. Good luck in your search!

I wear a silver classic Mickey Mouse watch currently, analog, not digital. Before that I had a gold-tone Garfield watch. I like character watches that are classy, yet fun.

on a side note, i'm KNOWN for killing watch batteries. and forget about wearing digital watches. three weeks, month, tops. then they die beyond battery replacing. i think it's an electrical thing in my system that does it.

i have to rotate my analog watches enough that i have them at least a year or so before the battery gives up the ghost. at this time, i'm down to three good and three that need replacing. the rest will start dying off faster now.

i also have bad luck with remote controls and cordless phones, too.

just thought i'd throw that out there. your problem with watches sounds a little too familiar. (and i also have small wrists and hands. maybe our electrical impulses are too close to the surface? who knows.) :)
