NYC Comicon
Feb. 26th, 2007 11:19 amWe're back! Brian wrote up a big thing in his journal, put some pics, and put links to our pics:
http://tk7602.livejournal.com/875913.html . I brought my AT-AT driver and my trooper groupie. I was bummed I couldn't get more into costuming, but we didn't have a lot of room for more stuff in the car - Brian packs like a girl! :)
I did cave and get something at Agent Provocateur - so lush! I also bought some white PVC to make a new trooper groupie bottom (skirt of shorts, not sure yet) and some purple spandex for a Zam Wesell body suit - it was a perfect color! We finally had time to explore the stores in the http://www.paulanadelstern.com/fabric/guides/index.html and were overwhelmed by the fabric, buttons and all of that kind of thing. Stretch House, Inc had black stretch leather looking fabric for Mara Jade (for those that have been looking). They are at 232 W. 37th Street (between 7th and 8th Aves) and their # is 212-868-0944. They have a website on their business card, but its dead at the moment: www.stretchhouse.com . You could try and e-mail them at sales@stretchhouse.com too.
It was fun poking around the city and seeing friends. The New Yorker was great, and I'd definitely stay there again for the convenience and the low (for the area) rates. The con itself didn't grab me as much as I thought it would have. The crowds were akin to Dragoncon, but the setup (all in one place versus spread over 3 hotels) made it difficult to get around. I felt so bad for the patrons that had to stand outside for hours to get in, and I'm so glad that Brian and I volunteered so that we didn't have to deal with any of that. As always, going to a con inspires me for future projects and I have a lot of ideas!
