We had dinner at Unos last night. They have a neat Kiosk right inside of the doorway for you to check nutritional information on things.

Brian had a deep-dish pizza with some chicken and peppers on it. I had the 4 cheese thin crust pizza. Now, we know pizza isn't the most healthy of items. We each ate 1/2 of our pizzas and had the rest for leftovers. The old us (pre WW) would have eaten the entire pizza and either split an appetizer or had dessert.

Each of those pizzas were 1700 or so calories. Damn! Figure a 2000 calorie a day diet or so, and pair that with a soda (few hundred calories) and that's the whole daily value in that one meal. Eating a thin crust pizza and only 1/2 of it I wasn't feeling stuffed or uncomfortable or anything. I did have a salad, so the bit of dressing on it (a vinaigrette) would have added extra calories. Brian didn't have a salad and was starving later in the night, but kept the desire for Ikea sticky buns at bay. Thankfully we had unsweetened iced teas, and no apps or desserts.

It goes to show why we Americans are so fat. That's one meal for two people in one night, and eating better than we used to we were still way over what our bodies needed. Damn! Its kind of a lesson to keep track of what you put into your body if you care about that sort of thing - it can creep up on you. :)

good for you!

i also always try to take half of my restaurant order home with me. it's a shocker when you finaly realize how many calories you can eat without even realizing it! especially when most places serve you "a meal" that is more than enough two or three people.

i've made it such a habit by now that i look forward to going out, because i know i've got leftovers coming to me the next day. i also always make sure to order stuff that will reheat well. *g*

however, i must say your IKEA willpower is nothing short of amazing. 1/2 of one of those things is "only" 200 calories i think.
