I'm OK, but I was hit by someone this morning. If you know Waltham at all, I was heading down Lyman Street from Main, just before the Lyman Estate/Rotary (on the bridge) and a woman coming down from the other direction lost control, skidded and smashed into the front of my car. Both airbags deployed and I had to really push to get my way out.

Other than a stiff/neck and shoulders I'm fine (I went to my PCP after the accident just to be sure - I'm to ice it and take some OTC pain killers). I'm sure that Hedwig will be a total loss.

The woman that hit me was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road and being at fault (hooray for a nice witness behind me who stayed to make sure that everything was settled). She was only 25 and was very shook up. It was slippery but really wasn't that bad, and I think it was a case of her perhaps not being comfortable driving in the snow? She left in the ambulance - I don't think she was wearing a seat belt (there was a break in her windshield, though no blood).

After going to the doctor, Brian took me to get my belongings from the car and snapped this:

I am so bummed, but I'm glad I am OK. The insurance company has been called and I have a rental until either my car is fixed (yeah right) or until I have a check for a total loss. It looks like I'll be in the market for a newer Impala now.

I'm sorry to hear about the car :( I'm glad you're okay, though! If one must wind up in an accident, it sounds like everything happened about as well as can be hoped for--I'm glad there was a witness who stuck around! Hopefully you won't feel any negative effects in the future, but it sounds mild enough that you should be okay. With any luck, the unlikely repairs or more likely obtaining of a new car will go smoothly!

So happy you're OK. If he had to go out, I'm glad he went protecting you. I know how you felt about him. :(

Did you get the front plate off, or was it damaged too?

We got the front plate, completely unscathed!

That rotary shouldn't be hard to negotiate...bet she was going too fast.

Anyway, I know you have a rental, and that the idea of not being able to drive yourself is anathema to you, but should you decide that you can't drive somewhere due to neck discomfort, call me.

She probably was - I drive through that exact same rotary every day to go to work. Today, at 6:30 am, it was fine, as long as you weren't flooring it. However, as usual, people in this state forget how to drive in the snow and have to relearn it every year. I had some jerk tailgating me through that rotary - idiot. I just drove slower and slower and slower until he finally got the message and backed off.

The roads were definitely not slippery enough to warrant the number of accidents, fender benders, and cars-in-ditches that I saw today!

Anyway - [livejournal.com profile] dancer, I'm sorry about Hedwig :( But very glad you're okay! Like [livejournal.com profile] deadwinter, I'm only a few blocks away, so let me know if you need a ride anywhere!

I'm so glad you are okay, but I understand mourning the car. I loved my Grand Am and a teen on a cell phone, pulled out of a parking lot without even yielding and straight into the side of my car. O_o It didn't look like a lot of damage but the frame was bent enough to call it a total loss. :(

I was lucky to have witnesses too, though the officer didn't find the teen at fault. :\

Get better soon!

Awww, poor Hedwig. I can definitely appreciate how much it sucks to lose your ride, but I'm glad he went out keeping you safe. Good luck getting all the insurance stuff sorted and I'm glad you made it through safe and sound!

As someone said to me when I crashed Juliebell: "Many a car has given up their life to save ours." I'm sorry about Hedwig, but I'm really glad you're ok and that newer cars have good safety features.

You'll feel a lot more sore tomorrow, so take care tonight.

I can empathize with the car-loss feeling: I cried when I crashed Professor X. He wasn't totaled, but he had a hefty medical bill, and what was worse was that (although I wasn't ticketed) it was totally my fault - I rear-ended a pickup truck when I got distracted by a car in the turn lane next to me. :(

I'm so glad you're okay. But take it easy... usually the pain/stiffness settle in for days 2 and 3. Oh, and think about a chiropractor in a week or two!

Very scarey! So very relieved it was "just" a fender bender -- even if the "fender" is the entire car. As I commented in Brian's LJ, the damage looks bad, but it's "good" in that that accordion thing cars do so easily is what absorbs the shock for us so hopefully we end up just needing ibuprofen.

I hope you and your car are OK! Do yourself a favor- go to the doctor or chiropractor and get assessed after you feel less banged up. This should all be covered by the other person's auto insurance. Take advantage of the treatment coverage! I'm still seeing my chiropractor a year after my accident- and it's all paid for.
