We went gothing at ceremony last night - how great to see people that we don't see often enough and go dancing!
The http://theplumbingmuseum.org/ just moved to Watertown. I love going to obscure museums, and learned a lot about historical plumbing when I read http://www.amazon.com/Bungalow-Bathrooms-Basics-Jane-Powell/dp/1586850814 to research for our own art deco bathroom remodel http://www.flickr.com/photos/22363238@N05/sets/72157611295598210/ . I want to check this place out very soon!
Newton Wellesley is moving in on Framingham's turf, very interesting:

I need to figure out how to get myself into a strength training routine (with some more cardio in there somewhere). EJ and Christina almost have me sold on the kettlebells, but I'm worried about our low ceilings paired with ceiling fans. I'd love to make more use of our workout room. What's been inspiring you to get moving, when you have 100 other things to do?

Date: 2009-01-13 02:50 pm (UTC)1. i had to email my measurements to my stepsister out of state, for the bridesmaid dress i'll be wearing for her wedding. it's different trying on a dress in person than it is seeing your measurements in print and comparing them to measurements taken 6 months ago! ouch.
2. also, i did cardio exercise for the first time last night in three months and i suuuuuuucccked. i was winded after three minutes of WALKING on the treadmill. it was pathetic! i have to get back to being better fit or i'll never survive faire season.

Date: 2009-01-13 02:59 pm (UTC)1. getting rid of back pain. Audrey weighs 25lb now and Eli is almost 40lb and they both still like to be carried at the same time.
2. I just spent a hell of a lot on plastic surgery to correct the things that exercise wouldn't touch now I have the resposablity of keeping up on the things I can fix

Date: 2009-01-13 03:18 pm (UTC)we do have the dumbells, bar, etc... so there is stuff. and body weight resistance is good when you aren't overly strong.
i haven't been doing much... only about 15 minutes in the morning (then my walk), but it's better than not doing anything at all.
and any time i go in that room i either do some curls, pull ups, bag punches, something... even just one set of 12 reps or something. just to say that i did it.

Date: 2009-01-13 04:22 pm (UTC)I'm not surprised about NWH. They are completely out of room at the main campus. They moved almost all of NWH IS to my building.

Date: 2009-01-13 04:53 pm (UTC)Cool that you guys had fun at ceremony. :)
I have to check out the plumbing museum!
As for exercise, what motivates me and keeps me going even though I "dont have time" is that I feel so much better the next day. If I skip more than one day, then the following day I will feel horrible. Its amazing how different I feel the following day just based on whether or not I've been to the gym or not in the past 48 hours!

Date: 2009-01-13 05:12 pm (UTC)i also have a job that somewhat relies on my keeping my strengh up.
toddlers and their gear can be heavy to lug around.
i also have a vericose vein and a lower back that would really love to just give on me. i need to do both cardio and weights. an ultra workout me is a ultra happy me, physically as well as mentally.
even if you don't have a lot of space, installing a chin up bar is easy, cheep, and really good for you.
workout motivation. I've got lots!
Date: 2009-01-13 05:21 pm (UTC)- Being able to enjoy eating and stay the same size
- Being stronger (and noticing this when lifting things around the house and shoveling snow, etc)
- The progress. It feeds on itself. I can work out for longer periods (cardio) and with heavier weights (resistance) now, and that itself gives me motivation to keep pushing, because I can see the difference every time I go.
- Stress relief. Once I got to a certain point (for me it was closer to two months, but with some noticable change after 3 weeks), I realized how ansty and unable to chill out I was if I hadn't worked out recently. It seems to just take the edge off, which is often needed when you do have 100 things going on!
- Groundwork for the future. I want to be a healthy 65 year-old (and 85 year-old), and the best way to do that is to get into the habits now. It will only be harder to start a workout habit at 40 and even harder to start at 50. So starting now is your best bet!
Good luck!
