This http://www.westonaprice.org/federalupdate/aa2009/06feb09.html prompted me to write to my Congressman participating in the House Energy and Commerce Committee (Ed Markey). If this issue is important to you, please do the same. :)

I clicked on the link and found it to be about raw milk.

I'm curious to understand your position on raw milk and pasteurization. I understand people not wanting to eat milk that has growth hormones added or is not organic, but I don't understand the anti-pasteurization concept. It doesn't add or remove anything to the milk, it just keeps it from spreading food-bourne illness, is what I've always thought. I know the basic ideas outlined here:

http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2004/504_milk.html

but that of course must be opposite your position. What is it about pasteurization ("destroys the enzymes"? etc) that makes you feel that its not "real food" (your title to your post)?

The pasteurization process does remove some beneficial things from milk. Its not raw milk that gets people sick, but poor conditions that animals are kept in.

We've been buying raw (grass fed) milk for about 9 months now and have been very happy with it (aside from health benefits, Brian is able to drink it being lactose intolerant). I've had friends drinking it for a while, but it was seeing Alton Brown's Good Eats on Dairy, reading http://www.amazon.com/Real-Food-What-Eat-Why/dp/1596911441 and Omnivore's Dilemma that pushed us over the edge ultimately.
