Milk, milk, milk

Mina has been less and less interested in her bottles (she's all forumua now) as she eats more solid food. Most days she's eating 'grownup' food and not the baby stuff. At dinner she most often is having smaller/safer things that we are also eating. The girl just amazes me. She's been into everything we've put in front of her. I was the same way. I wasn't a picky eater as a child (the only thing I absolutely hated was liver, on a rare liver and onions night, but I digress).
She had her 9 month pedi visit a couple of weeks ago (she was actually already 10 months old, but scheduling just worked out this way). After talking with the pedi about the little she was drinking in the day and when (bottle around 10, around 2, before bed and in the middle of the night around 1-3 AM) and what solid food she was eating, our pedi suggested she may be ready for cow's milk at 11 months. She did say that at this point Mina probably isn't hungry for a bottle in the middle of the night, and is doing it out of habit/comfort. She suggested if she woke to try and settle her down with some water in a bottle instead. The first night we tried this it didn't work - she gulped some water but still wanted formula (had a few ounces). The second night went the same way. Then she went a string of nights sleeping ALL THROUGH! When she woke up in the morning we gave her a bottle, and the trend continued. So more forumla during the day than before, but she was sleeping through the night. I like this plan. Last night she woke up around 1 AM and acted weird, took us a while to settle her. Teething? Playfulness? Motor development? After trying a lot of things she did take 3 ozs or so of formula and fell asleep (and slept late).
She isn't so crazy about holding her own bottles, though she can do it and will do it sometimes. She hasn't done well with a variety of sippy cups and straw cups, except, she rocks drinking out of a basic cup with a basic straw (think: the ones you get at a restaurant or those cheap 'take and toss' ones). Our Pedi said that this is good! We should just keep trying with those other less-leaky cups and eventually she'll get it.
I think whatever happens, when these 2 cans of formula are done we will be done, and moving to milk. She'll be 11 months on 12/17.
So, ideas on how to transition? I've read of mixing formula or breast milk w/ cow's milk and doing it gradually but honestly, this girl has not been picky at all with her eating (breastfeeding challenges aside). Temp of the bottles hasn't mattered. Spicyness hasn't mattered. She definitely prefers hand-feeding herself and things that are COLORFUL, and of course I won't know till we try it, but I would imagine that she'll easily take cow's milk out of her take and toss cup or a bottle. She's been drinking an organic milk-based forumua (the Walmart knock off of Similac Organic), so I'm hoping going pseudo cow to cow won't be a tough change.
She is walking all over the place now, for long stretches. Loves to bounce/dance when she hears music. Is mimicing our behavior of all sorts (making faces, clapping, laughing, banging things together). She is really into sitting with books (reading in our laps) or pulling them off the shelf, and turning pages. If she is in the mood you cannot get her to stop 'talking': Ba Ba, Da Da, Ma Ma, Na Na (she does this when she's upset). We swear we heard something like "kitty" a couple of times. More and more my parents say she is a little me, things to do, places to go and super super squirmy and motiviated (changing her sometimes is a nightmare and if you are trying to keep her from doing something she wants to do, watch out). Despite her go-go-go she lets us know when she needs quiet/downtime for reading or snuggling or a nap. If you pay attention to your kid, eventually, they will 'tell' you what is going on.
Just crazy that our muffin is going to be a year old before we know it! This time last year I was battling a strange rash all over my body, super swollen legs, and the anticipation of what our delivery and new life with a baby would bring.
