We went to look at the first of two houses in Framingham we are interested in; the owner of the other one is being a pain making it difficult for people to come in and see his (he wants to be there and works all the time, so there is only a 3 hour or so window of time per week to see it).

We liked this one a lot - it would need some work to beautify but has some SERIOUS potential (and things I've always wanted in a dream house, old nice woodwork, fireplace, bay-windows and claw-foot tub). It became apparent once in the basement that there was a fire (my Dad estimated about 10 years ago) but it seems that all was repaired to make the house structurally sound. Once we can get in to look at the attic tomorrow (the owners wanted to be there to show the attic since they have a bunch of show cats up there) and once we've compared to the other one, we may be prepared to make an offer. The offer, of course would be subject to getting records of proper/licensed work done post-fire (we should be able to get this from city hall), a good home inspection and securing a mortgage.

Here's more pix (including some from the inside): http://www.diabolis.net/~bunicula/images/house5

So our broker talked with the listing broker - she was aware of the fire damage in the house and actually sold it to the current owners 10 years ago when it already had had that damage. She doesn't have the papers but claims they are filed at city hall . . . which should mean there are no structural issues due to the fire damage (*crosses fingers*)

Unfortunately Ken (the broker) is STILL having issues getting us in to see the other Framingham house (its more $ but larger, more rooms, more updated - but seems to have less character from outside and has less of a private yard). Since we really like this one we may just make an offer tomorrow . . . many things to think about!
