It was tough getting out of bed this morning. I was up late on Saturday/Sunday and my body is trying to come down with a cold. Its a good thing I didn't go snow-shoeing yesterday (though, I had been really excited about it).

Thanks to those that came out to our house on Saturday! Its definitely warmed! I climbed into bed at around 4:30 AM and the last guest left at 8:00 AM (or so), save for Lachesis, who spent the night. It was nice to bum around the house in PJs with her again and share breakfast at Bickfords.

After some errands and visiting Gram and the family we watched the remake of Stepford Wives stopping here and there to switch laundry over. I really enjoyed it, and want to add the original to our Netflix cue. Was it as campy as this one?

I'm looking forward this week to making chili, continuing to get my life in order, continuing to have free time, and continuing to see friends I haven't seen in a while. Oh yeah, and dancing. I can feel myself getting stronger and more flexible again, and routines are starting to stick in my head. I really like the song that one of our ballet routines is to (from Center Stage): Read more... )

I've been reading http://nhpr.org/view_content/7178/ lately, since I needed a break from the fluffy autobiographies that I was into right at the end of the semester. I heard about this on NPR a while ago and picked up a copy finally when I saw it the gift store at http://www.newportmansions.org/page3544.cfm (Tiggerette and I went with her Mom right after Thanksgiving).

Its a very easy read, though it jumps all over the place in terms of chronology. I'm only about 80 pages into it but have learned some interesting things. Read more... )

I'm always fascinated with the sociological impact of the American Industrial Revolution and how its touched infinite areas (working, healthcare, education, urban planning, etc). Its very neat to live in such a historically rich area where I'm in a house on a street parallel with both Lowell and Moody Streets. Also, having had relatives that worked in these historic mills and factories, (some of which still stand today, albeit their walls house other operations now) has taught me about how easy many of us have it now, despite our gripes about work from day to day. So despite its jumping around-ness, I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in that period of history.

Airfare is booked! We'll leave Wednesday 4/6 and return Sunday 4/17. Both flights are direct Boston to Heathrow on British Airways. After checking a bunch of air+hotel package deals we found we could actually do it cheaper booking separately (assuming the hotel in London and B&B in Edinburgh we want to stay at are free).

Tomorrow Brian calls about accommodations and if I get time during my lunch hour I'll call a potential pet sitter (to give my friends a break). Whoot!
