Our broker pulled the info on that house, and suggested that he'd tear it down and use the land before selling it to someone.

Interestingly, looking up sales of houses on that street in Boston.com revealed that the house was purchased in September of last year for $126k. They are asking $275k for it less than 6 months later. Fishy.

I'm not that desperate to get into Waltham :)

total weirdness

I learned from my realtor yesterday (his office has been trying to sell that house) that the place is a dump. The whole second floor is falling and and needs to be rebuilt. They've had cash offers from builders for $250 that just want to tear the thing down . . . the people won't take it.

Heh, so it looks like that won't work for Brian and I. I'm not sure if your co-worker would want to get into that kind of job with it but if so, they'd be up against some really sticky sellers (our broker said they're sentimental about the place and don't want to sell to someone who is going to tear it down, or something like that).
