To make this simple: Ken is our broker, Uday is the guy selling us the house in Waltham. Ken called yesterday to tell us that the person that owns the house in Arlington that Uday is buying died this week. They haven't lived in the house for a while (we get the impression that they were old, ill, and in a nursing home or something). Now Uday's lawyer and his seller's lawyer have to work out the legal logistics. Its seeming like he won't be able to close on his new house on June 16.

Ken says though this "shouldn't effect us". There is nothing in the P&S that allows him to get out of closing in Waltham on June 16 if he doesn't have a place to go - he'd need to get his stuff out, store it somewhere, and find a place to live until he could close on the new place. If he didn't want to do this basically, he'd need to just say "forget it, I'm walking away" and in that case we could sue him.

So *this* is why its been taking so long to figure things out - Uday wasn't getting back to Ken, so Ken wasn't getting back to us.

Heh, we'll see how this pans out. Its never a dull moment I tell you!

Gah, I guess that explains why Ken was so non-responsive (in a way); he must have been waiting until he knew something concrete to tell you so he wouldn't worry you. However, it still sucks. At least you know what's going on now. I'd rather know what's going on and worry than NOT know and, well, worry. :)

Curiouser and curiouser! Can't wait to hear what happens, and fingers crossed that it doesn't affect the close...

Nope, he didn't know anything until yesterday (and he promptly called Brian). Its just that nobody involved in the Waltham sale was getting back to him.

Okay, then that's plain obnoxious. I never understand why people in that situation don't cover their asses more. As in, calling the client promptly to tell them that you've not received a callback. That way the client isn't being blown off, you are bring blown off. Bah.

I agree, he should have made more of an effort to explain that he was being blown off, but sometimes when you're dealing with clients you manage to put off the awkward calls because you know they're likely to worry your client and you might end up spending a long while talking to them and trying to calm them down for what might turn out to be nothing more than a lost message.

It's easy to think "Oh I'll call them tomorrow when I track down Mr. Foo" and then end up not being able to track him down all day and suddenly finding yourself 3 or 4 days out without an answer.

Oh, I know -- I'm just sensitive to this because I used to work for someone who was a complete flake about getting back to people (and these were situations I couldn't resolve, and boss == owner so there wasn't anyone else I could deal with!), because she'd sit and wait for a vendor to call her back. In the few situations I could try to resolve on my own, I quickly learned that calling the customer back after leaving a message with the vendor, just to say I'd left a message, did wonders.

Upon reading this, I just got annoyed because Ken could have just responded to J&B's first inquiry with "I left a message for the seller's agent, will let you know when he calls back" and the second with "I haven't received a callback, let me try them again". You know, just to give the impression of working on it. :)

Well it ought to be: it's the cutest kitty ever! Not that I'm biased or anything. :)

Unfortunately, I did not get a shot of his next action which was schlorping the lens.

Is he a baby? His eyes just look so big and bright and such a perfect little kitty face. Lucky!

He was actually a few years old when I took that picture, but he manages to look like a baby (or a rat) somehow in that one. This other userpic is his brother, the massive yet handsome Mila. Two white cats + lots of black clothing = many many pet rollers. :)

I think Ken should have gotten back to you at least with information that the seller was not returning his calls. While that's still frustrating at least it wouldn't have been him blowing you off.

I totally agree. Its also very strange, because usually he's been good about communicating up until the last few weeks. We had no issues 2 years ago, and didn't have a lot of issues until the change in closing date happened a few weeks ago.

You'd think since he's making a lot of $ from us (commissions from 2 sales) he'd want to make efforts to make us comfortable. Ah well - I still am glad for the assistance he's given . . . we would never have gotten this house if it wasn't for him.
