Busy day. Today I try and do the 50 billion things I need done before my boss returns from her 2 week vacation on Monday.

Goffee was CROWDED last night, and a lot of fun. I missed talking to some of you, being engrossed in a long game of Apples to Apples (we used up all of the cards)!

I need to plant something that doesn't get tall, that's a perennial, that does well in full sun. Any suggestions? Its for the right side corner of the front yard (you can see in this pic, there's a huge spot with no plant, and no mulch in the front corner next to the driveway): pic . Any suggestions? A co-worker suggested something that won't be ugly when the blooms die.

Daylilies are great and low-care. Other flowers like mini-sunflowers, echinacea (coneflower), and foxglove reseed themselves like crazy, so act like perrenials.

un-related ...

a hearty lavender might be good. they love full sun, just need normal watering and can grow quite large. find a plant that's tall so it'll grow up and out. the little ones in tiny pots never seem to amount to much and stay pretty low to the ground. the larger lavender looks better in a corner position

also, sage is very hearty & is also useful in the kitchen. grows to a nice rounded shape.

rosemary or winter savory.

margarita daisies always look good & grow about knee high.

forget-me-nots aren't bad, but sometimes spread outward leaving a hole in the middle.

astilbe is nice w/it's white or red soft flower spikes.

hosta is a good corner plant...close to the ground, has cute bell-shaped white or light purple flowers. leaves can be striated. a variety of plant sizes.

russell's garden center has some good ideas. they're located in wayland.

that spot has great potential for something that will cascade over the side. creeping thyme, cascading rosemary, phlox are all good options. I'd plant one [some] of those nearer the edge and something else very architecturally interesting a little further back. a grass of some sort will look interesting all winter. There are medium-sized varieties that still get the plume, or just have lots of grass spikes that will brown over the winter. sometimes i like them more in the winter than in the summer :)

if you want something that flowers over a long period of time, let me know and i'll look up some stuff. For that site you also need something heat tolerant and somewhat arid tolerant - the raised aspect of that bed means it will dry out faster, and the heat will reflect off the driveway, cooking the plants.
