They always go by so quickly! Yesterday was a fitting end to it though with getting some things done and spending some schmoopy time with the hubby.

I have new tires, we took pictures around the hood', finally saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and did lots of thinking about family and community:

After I woke up and showered I headed out to NTB to get new tires. Almost $500 later (ouch) I have 4 new ones. They actually didn't have the ones they quoted me (even though they said they did) so I got the next grade up i.e. top of the line for the mid-grade price. It took almost 2 hours to get the car back due to the pack of people there (snow will do that), but I had homework with me so it was all good.

After tires I headed home to grab B. We walked down Moody so I could try the lunch buffet at our favorite Indian place on the street http://www.bombaymahal.com/ - they were packed! Walking further down the street we looked *up* at buildings; Brian had never noticed a lot of the old architecture (I mean usually you're looking in store windows, not above them). We paused on the bridge near the ducks, walked across the street and explored the Mill area a bit, and walked home. The plan *was* to rake leaves (in addition to errands, homework and laundry) on Sunday, but the leaves were covered with snow. :)

I can't tell you how much I'm loving walking everywhere. Here's some pics that Brian took: http://diabolis.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=220 . The first few (up to the first picture of the Charles) are of our house with the first snow.

We finally saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, wow! It was nice seeing Jim Carrey in a serious role (and I love Kate Winslet). I had no idea that Elijah Wood or Kirsten Dunst were in it too. Fear the Schmoopiness!

Its been a very sappy weekend for me for some reason. Friday night it was nice to finally hang out with K, our schedules seem to rarely gel lately. We made sugar cookies (you know, with cookie cutters?)? I think the last time I did that was in the apartment in Waltham before I started Grad School (i.e. over 3 years ago).

On Saturday it was nice to watch my Great Aunt and Uncle dance together at their 50th anniversary party. The DJ played "We Are Family" and dedicated it to my Mom's family (I got up to dance with the circle of crazy old ladies with my aunt and one of my Mom's cousins - the other lameos at my table couldn't be bothered). I talked more with Mom's cousins about what they are up to now, the only time we really see them is Christmas Eve (and I'm usually entertaining my own friends so I can't spend much time socializing with the fam).

Nana had a little brag book with pictures from my great-grandparent's 50th anniversary party. It was funny seeing pictures of everyone in the mid-70s. My dad had sideburns, my mom was thin and was wearing a snappy 1-piece kelley green wide-legged pantsuit (she said she thinks she was pregnant with me at the time, but not showing yet). It seemed the family was much more cohesive than now. I joked to my Mom that even after being married they got stuck at "the kids' table". Its weird now, families seem so small that there's no need for a kids' table anymore . . .

My Mom also informed me at the party that things at my former dance studio are going really well. A lot of 'alums' have come back for lessons. I think that's what I'll do come January - I don't think they'd have an issue with me joining up mid-year. I'd take tap/jazz on Tuesday nights and ballet at 10:00 on Saturday mornings again. I'm really excited about getting moving and in shape again! I'm hoping to be able to go up and say hi, and talk to Patty about it before the holidays ("Miss Patty", the woman that first taught me at age 2-3 in the baby class, they used to always play the Howdy Doody soundtrack record for it). I'd love to see the studio decorated for the holidays anyway (that is, if they are still going to be doing it). I still can't believe that Miss Peg is gone . . .

And, I already mentioned the Megadeth experience. I wonder if any of those Bicfords people still hang out there? The last time Brian and I went for dinner at night (years ago - I think it was after the last time we saw Metallica, the summer Sanitarium tour in 99?) we went and there were a couple of people there I recognized.

This time of the year always makes me very thoughtful of days gone by and of the future. I definitely miss the large family gatherings we used to have. I also miss the group of friends we used to hang around with (sometimes the Bickfords Crew, sometimes the "Breakfast Club" brunch group). I'm also liking the return to the local community. Its made me feel good to be able to patronize local businesses and make a connection to our city. Brian's really been sucked in (neener neener neener).

I feel like I'm at a crossroads in terms of building new traditions - it will be a nice adventure.

On that note I'm off to fill my large glass with water and get crankin' on work. I've got much to do this week!
