Leave it to Tim to open a can of worms (in a good way) :) http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/lecithin.html

Looking at the labels of things I have at work, as far as soy goes in what I'm eating today:
milk, raisin bran, a plum, sliced turkey, swiss cheese, mustard, salad greens - all no soy
bread - "contains 2% or less of the following . . . soybean oil"
salad dressing - main ingrediant is "soybean and/or canola oil"

The latter 2 are to be expected. I wonder where else things are hiding (for the most part we don't eat a lot of pre-prepared/pre-packaged stuff).

Alton Brown touched on this in an episode we saw recently, "real" soy sauce: http://www.mothernature.com/Library/Ency/Index.cfm/Id/1945002

I first read about this subject on my favorite women's fitness site http://www.stumptuous.com/weights_index_revision.html

Of course I can't find the exact article now that I want to, but it's in there somewhere along with a lot of other good advice.

It's like the new corn, they sneak it into everything. :)

Which is interesting, as driving through the midwest is nothing buy soy- andf cornfields...

I can't help it.. I'm a stone addicted researcher. :) I also got very, very pissed off when I realized what I had assumed for a long time about some things were not only patently false, they were -intentionally- so.

Ah well. Ultimately, what I do to avoid this junk is try to eat locally produced foods and naturally pasture raised meat. Not that hard to get these days, amazingly enough. The 'natural' and 'organic' meat is certainly better than factory farm stuff, however what they don't mention is the huge amounts of grain and soy they feed these animals, which is not their natural food and causes changes in the fatty acid profile.

...getting off track.. ;) Anyhoo, I'm staying away from soy products other than 'real' soy sauce, miso, etc. And good on yah for looking at the labels. Since i've started religiously doing that, I've realized just how far the food processing people have gone. Creepy.

I am pro-lecithin! I discovered when I was taking chemistry that I did notably better on tests when I took a couple lecithin capsules with breakfast. Logical thinking and math come easier. I swear by the stuff.
