Cruisin'

I had some time last Friday afternoon to lounge around the house given my 1/2 day at work (flex time). I spent most of it sitting in the living room couch with the bow windows open and the ceiling fan going. I finally created a 'Cruisin' playlist for my iPod, which basically includes the songs I'd love to have blasting as my soundtrack as I'm driving on summer nights with the windows down. In the end there were just over 100 songs on there, and I'm sure it will grow.

To make this even dorkier, I downloaded some stuff from iTunes that I've wanted for a while. Inspired by reading the first two comic books that are prequels to the Supernatural TV series, I was reminded of the mullet rock stuff that's played as the Winchester Brothers cruise around in Dean's old Impala (which, I learned from the comics belonged to his Uncle before it belonged to his Dad). I found a website listing all of the music from the episodes and downloaded some stuff to add to my cruisin mix: Kansas, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Blue Oyster Cult, The Eagles, Jefferson Starship (or was it Airplane? I grabbed the White Rabbit song).

I'm ready to rock.

What's your favorite cruising music?

I know its dorky...

But.. for nighttime cruising, when there is some mist in the air, nothing better than Phil Collins "In The Air Tonite"

;-)

Well there's always the March from Superman... That one is only good at about 55+ with the windows open :) There are also some soft stuff that I picked up from sister like Make Me Lose Control by Eric Carmen... Summer of '69 um... Can't forget Jump or Panama of course ;)

There's a slew of more modern ones that don't come to mind, but if they're on the radio it makes the drive so much better...

- Lacuna Coil
- Rammstein (if you wanna drive a little faster)

Hey you've got some good names on your list. For me, like Jackie Chan said, "the Beach Boys are great American music!" Well, that's me, but I was crusin' around in a car that was 44 years old (when the Beach Boys were popular.)

I'd always been partial to Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Allman Brothers (when Duane was still alive). Poe's Hanunted album is really nice for the summer, as is anything of the Pizzicato Five.

That reminds me, I need to make a CD for [livejournal.com profile] lepidosiren's new ride, with the soundtrack from the Mustang/Charger duel from Bullitt as the changeover from the low-rev section to high-rev. Actually, considering his ride, maybe I should dub it to 8-track.

I never thought of Stevie Ray for driving, but now that I do the thought is "Of Course!". Especially on long, lonely county roads.

The basic rule is that they must allow for easily singing out loud. Thus, Demon Burger and most Norwegian metal is out.

For fast highway driving - old Bay Area thrash, Pantera, modern Gothenburg metal, Shadows Fall, Maiden and their faster European clones.

For being stuck in traffic, to calm down - funny or silly stuff, like the Murphy's Law Ska Song, or The Bosstones' "Chocolate Pudding". Amish Paradise, Poisoning Pigeons In The Park, Zebda.
